Spamming right trigger is an easy way to gauge damage, but not the quickest. Doing a combo I've used in Y1, we have gotten about 60% of crota's health away within one sword run. Here's the combo:
Light, light, Heavy, heavy, (super on second down) It is possible to get an additional heavy in if you skip the recovery animation with the super. If both swordbearers use this combo, you can easily kill crota in two swords.

Light, heavy, heavy, heavy will do more damage. The heavy after 2 lights does less damage because it's an uppercut and not a slam.
-
The damage number is very similar to the slams. I'll pay more attention next time I run sword, but even if it is less damage the uppercut has a faster animation.
-
I believe it's 11k for an upercut and 13k for a slam. Either way, it's 4 attacks. My way has a tighter window but can kill Crota in one phase with WoL and tether.
-
I don't really have a set combo. I just go in and do whatever I think I can in the time limit and it usually gets at least two thirds of his health in one sword, can usually get it down to about 25%.Thats with WOL though.

Edited by Kustom: 3/31/2017 2:19:39 PMActually that's not the best combo, what you do only amounts to using 3 Heavy slams each kneel which doesn't get him to 50% even if you Include a super. Good players can get a slash + 4 heavy attacks and at least a slash, 3 heavy attacks and a super on the second kneel which = about 60-70% of his HP
-
That's assuming you can charge the super slam twice in 1 sword
-
I should have specified the super slam is for the second time you hit crota.

Edited by Haunter: 3/31/2017 1:08:58 AMSo swipe, swipe, slam, slam, slam. Swipe, swipe, slam, slam, super slam, animation cancel slam?

Edited by RingersCheckmate: 3/31/2017 1:10:13 AM
So swipe, swipe, slam, slam, slam. Swipe, swipe, slam, slam, super, slam
Solid summary. The heavy after the two lights is a different animation, same button as the slam but it's more of an uppercut and the damage of a slam.

I'm going to have to try that. I figured it's best to keep it clean and simple until we get a good read on the mechanics, then experimentation. Also I forgot to check what part of his health bar is 13 triggers. I'm going to want that information so we don't accidentally enrage him. Thanks for the heads up. :)

While it takes more thought than spamming heavy, the extra damage is worth it. Being able to drop Crota in two swords is a huge advantage.

I use the same combo with full agility + increased melee attack speed. Too bad all the new helmets didn't have melee attack speed to double up with the gauntlets, but believe the new crota gear perks are copies of the old ones so you should be able to now to pull off huge damage easier. Not like it matters anyway because Bungie decided to let weapons of light bubbles work with the sword for some reason this time around (idiotic idea and didn't work year 1.) It's hella easy to get crota below half with WoL for any average swordbearer, and a good one can get him enraged or extremely close in only 2 downs of crota. Sounded like you didn't hear about the WoL being added.

I did, I'm just not a titan.
