Is that every 3 months we will have to grind out new armor, weapons, and light levels?

1 ReplyOne thing that may make a difference is to look at it as two different paths, here. On the one hand, if you're NOT a hardcore raider, you can get vendor gear at DLC launch that will, with leveling, take you past the previous cap but NOT up to the new cap - so you're ideally positioned to do everything EXCEPT the new raid on its hardest difficulty. On the other hand, if you're a raider through and through, you may just be better off skipping the vendor upgrades entirely - your L30 gear from the previous raid should let you deal with the new raid's Normal mode easily enough. From that Normal raid, you get enough new raid-spec gear to get up to the new level cap - which vendor-purchase gear WON'T do - and thus be able to go smoothly into the next DLC module, when it releases. I don't know if this makes sense to anyone but me. I saw a comment from another poster on these forums who sort of put this into perspective for me. Seen this way, to me it makes rather more sense. There's also the brief note about Vault of Glass that it isn't as obsolete as many paint it to be. Sure, the gear spec is suboptimal, but it's a big source of Ascendant upgrade materials, and those are just as useful on TDB purples as they are on launch-era stuff.

More or less, and if I understand it right it will not matter much. PVP will be equalized, and even if you are level 36 playing VOG on normal (28) it's not like you will be able to stand there and just take all damage dished out. They have already shown that the game equalizes to a point. The same can be seen if you go to earth, a level 3 enemy should not even scratch your shields at 32.... But that's not the case.

For everyone that says "all MMOs do that" that is an invalid statement for two reasons. 1) this is not an MMO. If you want to take that stance to defend the game's reset policies then you have to admit it has basically failed as an MMO. If you accept the party line that it is not an MMO then your argument the "all MMOs do this" is invalid from the start. 2) MMOs don't do it. Most MMOs have real levels. When the level cap is increased and better weapons and gear are introduced old fear is still useful because you can't equip the new stuff anyway (because they are too high level). So you need to grind to the next level and slowly replace your stuff. Also, MMOs expand at a much slower rate. WoW offers expansions every year at most. Not within a few months.

16 RepliesAs I said in another thread... Dance Puppets, Dance! Lots of complaints but in the end everybody is still grinding away... My solution is to find some buds to take away the edge of grinding, grinding, grinding, hi ho, hi ho etc. It makes a huge difference.

All MMOs do that. When DC Universe Online releases a new DLC pack it always includes new gear to buy that raises your Combat Rating (their equivalent to Light levels). The difference is that when DC Universe Online releases a DLC pack, they don't lie and call it an "Expansion". And they price them accordingly, each is only $10, but for that you get new gear, styles, Achievements and a good amount of new content. The first one, Fight for the Light, a Green Lantern themed one, added 3 Alerts (Strikes) and a Duo (a two man strike), but it also added the Lantern powers for Heroes and Villains (like adding a new subclass every Guardian can use), hell they gave it away for free to anyone who had an account at the time they went Free to Play. So yeah, Bungie is going to continually make us grind new gear and light levels like every MMO does, even thought Destiny will never hope to have the amount of content the average MMO has. And no, that is not okay. At all.

Destiny is a fps based mmorpg. WOW, and Perfect World are good examples of MMORPGS. The whole point of the game is grinding. Its a team based effort. Find more friends and get out there Guardian. For those of you who want to compare this game to Halo, take your ass back to Halo, because this isn't Halo. This is a different genre of gaming. If you dont like it, then its obvious that Destiny is just not the game for you.

1 ReplyYep, so get to grinding and enjoy your gear and weapons for the next 2 1/2 months before they become obsolete and you have to repeat the same thing you have done for the past 3 months. The sad part is...I'm still playing....only until house of wolves releases though, that will be the last grinding for me.

This game is part of a franchise. There will be sequels. This isn't a one game then upkeep and expansions. They are going to try and rip off another full price game. If they do put out more than these two packs I wonder if people will still give a damn. Well the majority of the first round buyers that is.

That and the 3 story missions mostly repeat maps we have, while adding only a small new area to the map that was really already on the disc for the most part and accessible through glitching. Hell, the raid and the strikes are pretty much the same maps also except for a few little "new" areas, possibly already on the disc. And a few pvp maps... I mean I usually never touch dlc on games except on a few occasions, but is this the kind of stuff you people have been forking 10-20 dollars for on all these games?

Not just a few new stuff, but you get the exciting thrill of releveling all the same -blam!-ing shit you already -blam!-ing leveled! Just when you thought the grind was over you find out you have to grind your grinding so you can grind more In the future all for 20$ (which you grinded for)

Releveling gear every 3 months with the way they have gated your progression through radiant materials is not only exhausting it is abusive.

Technically it's the only way for people to progress in the game. Same style as borderlands in DLC updates.
