[UPDATED] Accepting any and all theories for the remaining chests in Crota's End Raid

I updated the post on reddit and am doing the same here. Usernames are from reddit and bungie.net. Big thanks for those interested and posting! TLW: There are TWO chests in the beginning part of the raid. One will always drop loot the other may be dependent on completely the maze in a certain way. THE BASICS Have you seen an area that holds promise, but are terrible at hardcore parkour (jumping)? Post it! Have a theory that if "this" happens (or doesn't happen) then "that" could happen? Post it! Have a crazy "Why not try this" idea? Post It ! My bet is that if there is a central location that people can reference to expand on ideas or see ones that flat out did not work and not waste time with those, then we can find the rest of the chests pretty quickly. Pictures and videos will obviously be helpful, so post em if you got em. If I see anything out on the interweb I will update. Here's the locations of the chests dropping loot found so far: Location #1 Location #2 Courtesy of /u/thetacticaldonut a text explanation of the above vids 1st Chest - Spawns in 1 of 4 locations on the left wall/ lower half of the darkness maze. I haven't had a chance to explore the upper half much. 2nd Chest - After the 2nd shrieker is killed the door to the chest starts to close, 1 guardian must make it to the room before the door closes for it to open again. THRALL-A-POOLZA (LAMP SECTION) /u/BriceTheBeast was the original poster to point out a chest spawn area on the right side (as you drop in) on a balcony. /u/dasKampfyChair and /u/Roborabbit37 (video proof of Balcony Chest) both submitted videos confirming the balcony chest, HOWEVER, neither one one got loot when they opened them. This led us to assume that there is only one chest that spawns in different locations throughout the maze. BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE! Over on bungie.net @Sodac posted this delightful and encouraging piece of info: My team found 2 chests in the this section. We were exploring after we built the bridge. We checked in the two platform doors before the final two lanterns and bridge sync plate and there was a chest and there was also one in the beginning next to where you drop in before the first lantern in the 1st door. Facts I know about this... 1. We had beaten the section already before looking for the chests. (bridge was built, and we had touched the light and received loot) 2. Everyone had already obtained the first chest to the left prior to round start/completion. 3. One person died during the section, was not flawless. 4. Not everyone ignited a lamp. 5. Neither chest gave loot. (we are assuming the two chests must be opened during activity and before completion... in testing) 6. Went back to the beginning and one of the chests were in the 1st door to the left, there was no orange light above the door. 7. I highly suggest if you have an at least decent LED tv to turn your screen brightness in game to max, this makes seeing extremely easy! @Rockwellevo on bungie.net had this to say There are two chests in the first part of the raid, not just the one with the light on the outside of the door. On release day my team was messing around and one guy ended up on a lower area that contained another room with a chest. He couldn't get back up though from the lower area and we ended up wiping anyway. Everyone wanted to get passed the first part of the raid so we gave up trying to find it again but I need to go back and do more exploring now. This has promise. Since a few people have seen these chests but no one has gotten loot from both of them AND there's a strong theory that the Scoring Screen's counters (screen that shows after wiping) can hold clues to activating chest spawns. Examples would be how many lanterns were activated, etc. @LivewireUMD has some interesting input: There is definitely more to discover in the lamp area. I've seen chests in the doors where the light was NOT on and the chest gave loot (it was looted first). Then I've seen other chests in the area that did not give loot. Perhaps multiple chests spawn in the lamp area and you have to open them in a certain order. Or before doing things. One theory could be: 1) if the light above the door is not on and there is a chest then you can loot before touching any lights without penalty (penalty = you cannot obtain loot from anymore chests in the zone) 2) if the light above the door is on then you can loot after touching a light without penalty. Get through this section without activating any lamps BRIDGE/GATEKEEPERS No chest has been found in this area before/after the encounter starts/finishes. Listed below will be theories as to what may cause a chest to spawn. Don't let the bridges deconstruct. Here's what /u/dhruv69 suggests: What if the bridge was never allowed to deconstruct ? Meaning once three people make it over to the other side, they immediately stand on the circle that side while the people over on the left side keep it open as well. Then continue with the strategy of crossing people over while never letting the bridge deconstruct. Maybe the chest spawns on one of those three floating platforms near the totems or somewhere further down the raid. The bridge that we construct during the 2nd phase of the raid will stay constructed after the area is cleared. This area could have great potential! A few have suggested trying to make one's way to the pillars that are out in the open area between where you start and where you end up. On bungie.net @Sodac said that there is an invisible wall out there that prevents you from making it to each on. Let me know on this one, please. CROTA'S LOVE COMPANION (IR YUT THE DEATHSINGER) This is arguably the most frustrating part of the raid for loot. No chest, no loot drops. But like many, I think there has got to be something there. Here are some thoughts: Some have also suggested that since this event is timed, that killing her within a certain time will spawn a chest. I saw a video of a guy solo'ing this part. There could be something up in the rooms that he reaches that are above the Deathsinger. After killing Ir Yut (The Wicked Bitch of the Hellmouth) split the fireteam up and search for as many doors as possible. Open them all at once and see what happen. @brettwilhoit had this theory: "I think there's a chest during crota fight, randomly a gatekeeper spawns above the crystal and can be see on the balcony at times, he has to be guarding something... Likely a chest and would definitely be in a high stress situation fighting Crota and all" CROTA FIGHT Put on your tinfoil hats and get comfy. Open to suggestions on this area. THINGS TO TRY IN ALL PHASES /u/Promethium suggested that paying attention to the text that will appear over your super level that is going to make the fight harder in some way is something to consider. An example being from the old raid where it displays the Templar is summoning his Minotaurs after you prevent him from teleporting. To piggyback on that, taking note of anything that is displayed over the super meter and trying to see if that action can be prevented. /u/Athearchist noted that the chests have been in high stress areas (running from thralls in the beginning and streaking past the shriekers/thralls for the 2nd chest). He suggests one area "During the first bridge when we're running towards the light. Once you cross it there are two platforms to the left and right. Assuming you can go invisible, they should be capable of being explored, as should the remaining trek to the light." What other "high stress" areas are there that would be easy to zoom past a chest without a second thought? Score Screen An overall theme that has been mentioned is to pay attention to the "counters" that the game will show after wipes. Examples would be how many lanterns were activated, time with the chalice, etc. This was/is a common theory for the VoG chests. In this section I will list anything that has to do with trying one of these out. This way your team can focus on one and explore, while another team works on another counter thing and explores. Lamps Activated - [place holder] Exploders Killed - [place holder] Gatekeeper Kills - [Needs Testing] Each player must kill 1 Gatekeeper and 1 Swordbear (this has been said to not have spawned anything, but keep testing) OR 1 player must kill 6 Gatekeepers and 6 Swordbears Encounter Duration - [place holder] Chalice Time - [Needs Testing] 0:00 Chalice Time could be a thing. There are a few weapons (Suros, Apotheosis Veil, Red Death, Swordbreaker - new raid shotgun, destinygamewiki.com lists the gun as having the perk "Lifestealer", but not on destinydb, this may be a lucky perk you get) that will regen health. Plus a Titans bubble can regen health. /u/Roborabbit37 said there is a cheese method that allows you to NOT use the chalice, yet no chest spawn. New Cheese on Crota that if you all wipe then a Warlock self revives, you lose the Presence of Crota debuff and picking up the Chalice will only put it back on. We done it earlier without picking up Chalice. Oversouls - [Needs Testing]Defeat Crota with 0 Oversouls - /u/darkxsagex said that his team beat Crota with no Oversoul and searched the area to no avail. Possibly needs to be combined with 0:00 Chalice Time.

  • Go to the highest point of the raid with your best equipment, jump off and die, go sell all your equipment. Finally, go back to the place you died and a chest should appear with double the items you sold. Thank me later, Dan

  • After the 2nd bridge area (totem/gatekeeper part) there is 6 doors you can open in the area just after the bridge using your ghost. There is also 6 people in the Fireteam (normally). There is 2 doors on the left side (where ogres spawn) and 2 on the right (where ogres spawn) then 1 on the left right before the stairs to go up and 1 on the right. I, and a team, tried to open all 6 doors at the same exact time and nothing happened. We tried 1 at a time and nothing happened. I thought maybe opening all 6 at the same time would trigger something like another door opening. At the top of the stairs, before the thrall/shrieker section, there is a very large door to the right. A ghost does NOT open this door. Maybe that door opens when the other 6 are opened at the same time? I don't think these 6 doors being able to be opened, the fact there is 6 in a Fireteam and the large door at the top is a coincidence.

    • Just putting this out there. If you have your ghost out while looking at some closed doors, they will open. Maybe one door is special?

    • There is no drop after deathsinger. Now that I hopefully have your attention let me get to my point. I don't know if someone has already pointed this out elsewhere, if so then my apologies, but I don't think that deathsinger is supposed to drop loot. If you go into "Advisors" in the app you can see your progress for weekly, nightfall, and the raids. For VoG you will notice that there are four "boxes", one that fills up for completing each part that has a loot drop i.e. oracles, templar, gatekeeper, and Atheon. If you look at the completion chart for CE you will notice that there are only three boxes, corresponding to the drops at the end of the maze, the bridge, and crota. I don't believe this was simply an oversight and for this reason I believe that there may not actually be a loot drop after the deathsinger. Now whether or not there is a way to spawn a chest is an entirely different matter, and this actually seems quite likely, I just wanted to throw in my two cents and hopefully present a different angle on the deathsinger portion of the raid. Feel free to comment as you like, and hope this adds something, however small, to this thread. P.S. Sorry for the initial statement, I hoped to catch your attention so you would continue to read, but I am open to the idea that I'm wrong about this and there is a loot drop after the deathsinger.

    • You can open all doors in the death singer/crota area by pressing the touchpad, behind those doors is nothing (an area which is blocked just like caves or rooms that spawn enemies in other parts of destiny with some sort of mist in front of it. Maybe there is a way to get rid of the mist and something spawns, or maybe during the death singer's bit there is no mist (haven't tried).

Not activating any lamps on the first part. Potentially spawning the chest in the middle of the starting platform, or in the rooms where the ogre spawns by using your ghost.

    • Anyone know why the door for the second known chest would never be open to begin with? I've been in 3 separate groups that went for the chest and all 3 times the door was not open at all. First time I was at the invisible wall waiting for it to drop and second time was a friend of mine gong for it that had done it before.

      • I did notice something about the death singers. The song will NOT start until you shoot the ads. This includes splash damage from rockets. If you only shoot the Wizards and the shreikers the song will not start at all. So is it possible a chest will spawn if you do not start her song at all?

            • My friends and I have found 2 chests in the lamp maze. The second one was 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the maze on the left. It was in a door similar to the first chest. I got on my alt character and went back to that spot and the 2 chest wasn't there. It must be like the first chest and have multiple spawn locations. I will keep searching for video proof but there are def 2 in the lamps maze

My team and I had the Crota raid finished on all 3 of our accounts by Friday night/very early Saturday morning. I have also read some of the comments and tested some theories. Here is what I know and some suggestions/tips... The Abyss: My team found 2 chests in the this section. Bridge/Gatekeepers: Not much to say here. Facts I know... 1. All 6 of us crossed the bridge and killed their gatekeeper with the sword. 2. People did die, was not flawless. 3. There is an invisible wall when trying to get to the further out pillars, you hit it and fall to your death. (Blade Dancer and Striker classes attempted with) 4. You can leave and rejoin your other characters once you get the 2nd known chest in the gauntlet hallway at the end. Make sure 2 people stay in though, one to stay next to the chest so it doesn't despawn and the other to revive teammates when they rejoin. Death Singer: Didn't do much exploring during the fight, but did a lot afterwards and found no chests. Right and left sides are as if you were coming out of the door on the bottom and looking towards where Crota will be summoned. Strategy I know that works... 1. Rush past all adds down low and have 5 people go left and one person go right. 2. The 5 person team will end up aggroing all the adds and pulling them to the lower left side of the map. 3. Quickly kill the wizard and the shrieker on the left and then gtfo. 4. The right person will only have 1 knight to watch out for in the beginning, so run in shoot the glass and aggro the wizard. 5. Run out take cover and kill this wizard. 6. Once both wizards are dead have all the team rush right and kill the knights and acolytes inside the room, because all outside adds are on the left side. 7. You can run into the room and jump above the doors in the crystal room, this keeps most adds from dealing you damage and you can get a start on the Death Singer while your team kills the adds. 8. Suppression grenades work great against the Death Singer, it stops her from shooting for a short time. Crota Fight: Did not find any chests yet in this area. Have tried some suggestion seen in here though. Facts I know, or thing I have tried... 1. No chest appears after killing him with no one dieing. 2.I have obtained the sword and went back inside and attacked the crystal also tried the suggested special attack... nothing happened. 3. I am still trying to see if I can get the sword up into the 3rd floor to attack the gatekeeper. If you have any questions please ask. If I was confusing at any point let me know and I will clarify. I hope this helps, and I am hoping to hear some great feedback and tips like I have left. Let's find these other chests!

                    • I'm a fan of these types of post and think its a great idea but I heard a valid point made the other day. So remember when they said legendary engrams were guaranteed to be legendaries? Well when they did this it decreased the likely-hood of getting one. Now they have said that the raid will more consistently drop things you need so maybe there are now less chances to get those drops. Just a thought and also I've always wanted to explore the light tunnel after the darkness maze but am usually the only one still alive lol. Now that being said raid chests seem to be spread from "stage to stage". VoG- 1. Sync plates, 2. Templar no port, 3. Exotic chest at beginning of gorgons, 4. Unseen by gorgons. So far we have these for Crota- 1. Darkness maze, 2. Speed shrieker. The 1st chest seems to be like the 1st chest from VoG; its a "thanks for showing up" chest. The 2nd has a requirement just like the templar chest. I think the next logical step is something with the deathsinger. She has to have some point and just not to be really annoying. Has anyone killed her before the liturgy begins or figured out how to kill her before she begins her song (doesn't seem possible)? Another point to be made is that there was only 1 exotic chest in VoG and so far we have 2. Well that's all my theories and thoughts at this moment. Happy hunting!
