I think there's a chest during crota fight, randomly a gatekeeper spawns above the crystal and can be see on the balcony at times, he has to be guarding something... Likely a chest and would definitely be in a high stress situation fighting Crota and all; have some things to try out but happy hunting

My team tried getting to the gatekeeper but there is an invisible wall blocking that area

Wrong. There is a way to kill them. I got one of them down to half health.
