When you're playing Clash, then all you have to worry about is getting a good K/D and the W. However when you're playing Control/Zone Control/Rift it's the OBJ. The question is, are you willing to go full Leeroy Jenkins to prevent a cap/dunk the spark/cap a point?
I looked at my profile the other day and saw that while my K/D wasn't anything for MOM to grab the camera for, I was at least getting a lot of caps and control preventions. I've gone full Leeroy and I can tell you, that even though you may die and get some Warlock Lipton Service, it's worth it if you're team capitalizes on the strike and makes the play. However when you go in, prevent the cap/almost make the cap only to see a blueberry just stroll on by looking for another kill, it makes me want to reach through the interwebz and choke him with his ethernet cable. I'll leave it at that as Micless Blueberries is another topic entirely and would take pages without end to thoroughly vent upon.
So for the TLDR crowd:
To Leeroy, or not to Leeroy, that is the question:
Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep
No more

Obviously you shouldn't play for your kd but imo you should still try and at least go positive. Going negative means you might be giving the opposition more points than you earned for your team. I don't think that's good if you want to win.Though I'd still rather have a team full of Leeroys (that also play smart) than a team full of kd farmers any day.

Depends if it's football or basketball

if I have full super, make no mistake I am going to rush point B like a madman (will pop a bubble if I am withing the radius so Armor of Light gives me the time I need for my team to get over here). If I do not have my super... will probably try to aggravate the other team into chasing me to move them away from the objective in case any team members are near-by.

Leeeeerrrrrrroooooyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

Play to your strenghts. Solo player here with .9 kd .7 w/l

Edited by Gray Sox: 11/24/2016 8:04:11 AMIf I'm playing Control my priority will always be keeping the other team off my teams two objectives. I'll usually finish with 1 or 2 caps and many defense kills. Because if you're going after all the shiny, you're doing it wrong. Also, you get more points, helping the team out more that way. Zone Control is another story entirely, the whole game is the objective; I usually float about the zones and cap when I have support. Rift I usually play back to keep guys off my runner.
-
I love capping zones by myself. One time a couple of guys on the enemy team sat with me and just chilled, but then some jerk smashed us all. This is why we can't have nice things.
-
Not if I'd be pushing 3 people by myself without a super, no sense in giving them free points
-
No. Playing the objective recklessly is not any better than avoiding it in total. I only go for a cap if it's safe to do so, or if I have a teammate or 2 to help me cap. Etc. I don't wanna run and grab the spark when I know 3 guys are camping it and they'll kill me as soon as a pick it up. They'd probably end up getting more points for stopping the runner than for picking up the spark.
-
I would hardly say that control is an objective game type. Sure it's important to take and control zones, but getting kills is more important. You could theoretically win a game without capping a single zone, but you'll never win by solely capping zones. On the other hand, in games like zone control and rift, throw yourself at the objective if it means preventing a cap/spark ignite, even if it kills you.

Edited by A Syrian Refugee: 11/22/2016 10:54:10 PMPeople who think k/d doesnt matter even in Objective games have no clue what they are talking about One of the traditional roles in Competitive Objective games has always been the "Slayer". The slayer clears paths for the OBJ players. Its imperative the slayer(s) has a high k/d or else he isnt doing his job Trying to fit a sqaure peg in a round hole doesnt work. If one guy is very good at killing then thats what he should do just like if one guy is very good at OBJ thats what he should do

LEEEEEEROOOOOYY JENKINS!!!!

A lot of people will say not to worry about k/d and just get as many balls to the walls kills as possible. Personally, I'm not one to get all worked up about stats, but I will try hard to go positive. Taking the base number of 100 pts per kill: If you get 20 kills, but die 20 times, you alone have fed your opponents a minimum of 2000 pts. Taking assists and specialty kills into account, that number could easily be 2750-3000 pts. If your 20 kills happened to be solo kills (for sake of argument), you'd have only earned a bit over 2000 pts. This is not even taking into account Control. That is all hypothetical, but entirely possible. All that hot air to say that even a 1.0 k/d when you have a high amount of kills is still enough to boost the enemy just as much, or more, than your team. I would rather see a guy on my team with 15 kills and 6 deaths than 25 kills and 20 deaths. Lol.
-
I'm kind of halfway. I will play the objective and to a degree I'll stick my neck out to get that objective done, but if it's too great a challenge, I'll fall back and try to pick a few people off before I do anything.
-
Play your game in the way that gives you the most satisfaction. Who gives a crap what others think about how you get there?
-
I only care about my kd in modes where kd actually reflects how good you are in that mode, which is why I have a 1.7-2.13 in average crucible modes like control and rift and a 2.75 in trials.

Edited by I_Bait_U: 11/22/2016 3:16:26 PMSo I played control the other day. We won by like 5/6 thousand points. I was at the top with 6K points but no caps. Then I get "nice job playing the obj". You realize my 33 kills and 6k points is why we won, and I top fragged? I was knocking people off the zones and slaying the team but oops. Every team needs atleast 1/2 slayers.
-
Captures are overrated. If you play it like you should, then you only need to worry about capturing the home flag and B first (arguably A and C on widows court and vertigo) and about killing afterwards.
-
I like to see myself as a sort of Leroy mixed with an intelligent person. If I rush I'm OK with going down as long as I take a few people down with me.
-
I would say I play a scout role. I watch over points and pick off folks trying to take it, but I won't kamikaze my way in
