I do think we will succeed against the Darkness, but perhaps that is just vain hope.
But I do admit, hope has been on the horizon for quite a while now.
The Fallen are getting to the point where an alliance with them is seemingly possible.
The Cabal are desperate, and with the guidance of Calus they might join with us.
The Vex fear the Dark, and have allied with us to save themselves before.
The Hive are admittedly a lost cause, as their Worms ensure both their purpose and end.
Perhaps, when the Darkness does return, it can be held back with a united effort that it has yet to face. It has always been one light against the night, but what happens when it is joined with many more?
As of now, all we can do is wait and see.

A Vex alliance would only work if our interests are somewhat aligned, and even then it would serve only towards their ensured survival, but not much else.

I’ve wondered though about exactly what Asher’s virus will do to the Vex collective it has infected, the Captain’s consciousness in the Harpy on Nessus, and the Vex of the Vault of Glass. While we have villainous Vex we also have Vex capable of thinking outside of what we consider their current parameters. I don’t think it’s impossible to eventually have a subset group of Vex that find changing sides is more valuable to their overall survival than their current arc of conquest. When the Darkness does arrive it’s not impossible to think that all the races, maybe barring the Hive (depending on Morn’s future) may need to all unify to defeat the common enemy.
