<Alright. Let me say that I don't really like the Stranger. I felt like leaving her alone would've been fine with me. But adding things on to her drew her back in.
Let's talk about "the Stranger's Future" as I call it.
It's the future that is caused by the Vex unleashing the Progeny upon the world, but ultimately failing and having the Darkness take over.
That's the key, the Darkness takes over, not the Hive or Taken. They are gone, replaced by more Vex.
Let's see if we can pull scenarios and theories together to figure out a timeline. We never kill the Heart of the Black Garden. The Heart doesn't damage the Traveler. It's more akin to holding open a wound and never letting it heal. This is opposed to the Hive ritual in Chamber of Night, which was like making a deeper incision.
This is when the Heart builds up enough strength to power the Progeny at full capacity. The Progeny then go on to decimate the Hive, the arch-enemy of the Vex. With the Hive gone and the Cabal suppressed eternally, the Vex turn their eyes to us once more. This is when the Traveler, feeling threatened, wakes up. This pushes back the Progeny, maybe even killing them. This is when the Darkness makes its way here.
The Deep proceeds to annihilate the remnants of Sol, leaving only few survivors. The survivors are the Stranger's crew. They send her back in time to stop the Heart.
By killing the Heart, the Traveler begins to HEAL. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Because the Traveler is healing, it has a better chance against the Darkness. However, the Traveler has to wake at some point. So the Cabal bring in the Red Legion and that wakes up the Traveler. However, it's stronger now than it was in the Stranger's Future. This would be the key difference.
However, it may not be enough. The Vex and FWC still predict total annihilation and the Hive are still around.
We're -blam!-ed but let's be honest, we have a better chance now than ever.

15 RepliesI have a theory: The vex were a military defense network created by an unknown species to combat the Darkness, but the network became self aware. Now they combat anything that isn't Vex; Darkness, Light, Fallen, Cabal, it doesn't matter.

Edited by Alasdair: 10/2/2018 1:45:11 PMI feel like the reason we haven't seen the stranger is because we destroyed the heart in the black garden. Perhaps the timeline has shifted? Maybe the threat is still there, but much farther away and much slower than previously written. As you posted, total annihilation seems to still be in the forecast. And if that threat the stranger and her crew encountered were those 'pyramid ships', I wonder how we'll combat them. Calus wanted some Guardians in his regiment, right? Maybe we'll make a deal with him and he could use the power of the Leviathan to protect Earth and maybe even become allies in exchange for some 'light bearers'. In that case, we'd most likely be that Guardian(s) and this would allow Bungie to introduce the cabal home world, where we'd go and do missions for Calus to exterminate his foes and abscond with some tech to improve his fleet. (An entirely different topic, I know.) We also have a dreadnought just floating around Saturn. Perhaps Eris becomes the pilot of that and also helps defend? Hopefully we'll see more of this unfold as the game progresses, but as of now it seems pretty focused on Savathuun and who knows if we'll get to square off with her in this game.

Edited by w3rdblader: 10/4/2018 2:37:27 AMOther theory, the heart of the garden was the heart of the traveler. When we destroyed it, we defeated the darkness, but also lost the light. Would have been cleaner than these constantly evolving alien races that seem to evolve in the exact method of which they were recently beaten. Hell, there are tens of thousands of scorn and they didn't exist a 6 months ago.

2 RepliesI love this theory. Because in the end even the Archival Mind admits that we’re -blam!-ed

4 RepliesJust some sprinkling of speculation: - Osiris and Saint 14 are probably part of the Stranger's crew - Osiris uses his vast knowledge of the Vex network to send the Stranger through time. Saint 14 falls fighting off the Vex that tried to stop them from pulling this off - On Venus the Stranger is talking to someone on the comms: Osiris (this theory you have also explains her angry comment about the Vex being 'so evil it despises other evil')

1 ReplySounds really solid. I'm just curious where I can read about the stranger and all this about an alternate timeline?

12 RepliesThey completely gave up on the stranger plotline, I'ts been a full game and three DLCS later and nothing about her even surfaced. Bungie sucks with story.

12 RepliesEdited by Technohydra: 10/1/2018 8:40:19 PMSo, there's an issue with this: the Darkness and the Deep aren't a people or a race, it's a primordial, elemental force of the universe. Much the same as the Sky and the Light; The worms gods are no more the Darkness than the Traveler is the Light; they are agents, conduits. So, to make this theory have more weight to it: define what race would be representative of the manifest Darkness. The Fallen aren't of the Darkness, they are failed Light-bearers, and the Cabal aren't of the Darkness either, they are just a martial race. So that leaves the Vex and the Hive. Thinking about it, the Vex can alter the timeline, and the Hive have the Ascendant realm, which can prevent death from being permanent. What if neither race won? What if they engaged in a nearly endless struggle; the Vex constantly trying new scenarios, and the Hive growing stronger and stronger from the death cycles, which feed their worms? At some point, the races could combine (either the Vex assimalating Ascenant Hive and taking control, or the Ascendant Hive Taking the core Vex mind) and become an ultimate force for the Darkeness to wield? Then who's -blam!-ed? Us, that's who. Not saying that's the answer, but it helps move on to who will be the representatives of the Darkness, as we are the representatives of the Light. Think on it, I'd be interested to see what you can come up with.

2 RepliesThe stranger is probably done since they revealed her to be Elsie Bray and kind of wrapped her up in Warmind...so regardless of any theroies, I'm not sure we are gonna hear anything else about her (the main mystery was who she was so I think they ended her story)

1 ReplyAlso, what if the heart in the Black Garden was Riven's heart? when I saw the dark ribbons in the cinematic explaining the Raid, I immediately thought of the heart doing the same thing making those Vex statues real Vex. ... Which means Savathun knows who we are and has been orchestrating our entire existance from the very beginning, giving us our victories time and time again as if she's watching a play. She helped us kill Crota, to dethrone Oryx, to bind Xol, to release Riven.. What next?

2 RepliesI do think we will succeed against the Darkness, but perhaps that is just vain hope. But I do admit, hope has been on the horizon for quite a while now. The Fallen are getting to the point where an alliance with them is seemingly possible. The Cabal are desperate, and with the guidance of Calus they might join with us. The Vex fear the Dark, and have allied with us to save themselves before. The Hive are admittedly a lost cause, as their Worms ensure both their purpose and end. Perhaps, when the Darkness does return, it can be held back with a united effort that it has yet to face. It has always been one light against the night, but what happens when it is joined with many more? As of now, all we can do is wait and see. - Biocatarus-3

5 RepliesWe are the Key to Solving all that await us. While predictions have been made, we have never been in any of them. As evidenced by Osiris. He never saw ''US'' in anything seen in the infinite forest. I feel this is a bigger part then what any other charecter has not seen. It's just our destiny, to rise from the brink of despair and fight key strategic locations to bring hope back. >_> <_<

Edited by Primey, Kell of Kaboom: 10/2/2018 1:35:39 PMLove the name change, first of all. Second, I would love to think all of this, culminating into Destiny 3, to have a point of convergence, where Elsie’s future (don’t deny it, its her) and our own have a shared... Destiny. What that Destiny is exactly is uncertain. Stopping the Darkness together? Fighting on both sides at the end, no matter how implausible that might be? Either way, I would love for Bungie to leave an ambiguous ending for the threequel, or be ballsy enough to feature at least 2 parallel endings based on the course of the game, on if win or we failed against the Darkness, Elsie along side us the whole way. Of course, it breaks the structure of the previous 2 games. But then again, Destiny 2 copied off Destiny 1, and just looks better. And we all wish for a groundbreaking Destiny game. Such are my thoughts.

2 RepliesThanks for the feedback. Destiny 2 already has some of these daily incentives with the daily challenges and Bounties, but we could always consider doing more. So you were suggesting a random amount of materials show up in your Postmaster or to be picked up from a Vendor if you log in?

3 RepliesEdited by TabbyTennis801: 10/2/2018 3:04:32 AMIf that’s so, she must be working with some sort of organization that wouldn’t want to make contact with the City, or else she would’ve told the Vanguard, not just one Guardian, even if it is The Guardian. *produces spinfoil hat* This is crazy and I really don’t like bringing them up, but what if she was working with a remnant of the Nine? If what you’re saying is true, maybe the Nine were also attacked and nearly destroyed. They were like, “Um, what the -blam!-, not cool,” and sent a survivor with little chance of getting caught back in time to find a Guardian too green to know who they were to destroy the Heart. That’s really the only group I can think of who the City would openly oppose having a presence there. And I realize that Xur is in the Tower occasionally in D1, but he sells weapons against Vanguard policy and technically shouldn’t even be there.
