Yeah, but public events are temporary. You could only fight with those fireteams for a short amount of time

A public event is like multiplayer matchmaking that happens behind the scenes while you explore the area. When you walk by a public event the HUD will inform you and you and your fire team can decide whether or not you want to walk past it. A public event has a wide array of time lengths, objectives, and difficulties, but it does eventually end. Bungie hasn't told us if we can continue exploring with one of the other fire teams we met during the event, but many believe this is unlikely due to the fact that too many players would make the game too easy, and would disrupt the hero vibe.

6 people would make the game too easy?! Okay...so bungie gives us hours upon hours upon hours of gameplay so only the three of you could do it? 6 people isn't a lot.

No you see the proof 3/6 in the top right of the screen. Why would they have that up temporary? Man when the game comes out people are going to be talking to eachother and saying "I told you so!!" XD
