Destiny 1 had people playing on 4 different platforms, that is why the numbers were higher. Late 2016 is also 2 years later after D1's 2014 release. Numbers will obviously drops when a game is that old.

That's all true. But it doesn't detract from my original point. D1 lost a lot of players, D1 was a huge disappointment. you only get 1 chance to make a first impression, and D1 didn't make a good one

It never made up for it. It got better for the fans, the small percentage of people that stayed. From the outside looking in though it was pretty much the same
