The problem is he just saw the numbers and went "look! Look at that!" This was most likely done because he knew the uneducated wouldn't look into the reasoning behind the numbers. But, maybe I'm giving him too much credit and he was too unintelligent to look into the deeper meaning.

 • But why is it mostly false? I'm still bewildered by that.

 • The numbers are correct. The reason for it and his interpretation are false

 •
The numbers are correct. The reason for it and his interpretation are false
He never gave any reason or interpretation. All he claimed was that "the debt is down $12 billion and the media hasn't been reporting this." Politifact acknowledged this fact, but then went on to say that his claim is false because it's not due to his actions. But Trump never claimed they were due to his actions. It's implied, but I still don't see how that's mostly false, lol. Sounds more "partly true." Let me explain it in a less biased way.
Trump gave out factual information, and while his numbers are true, it's possible that he is referring to his actions are what caused this. So while he is correct, his assumption of the cause is not.
Is this, "partly true," or "mostly false"?

 • I would say it is partly true, not mostly false, from the answers you gave. I never stated his statement wasn't "true", I simply gave a reason why he made it in the first place -- because uneducated people wouldn't do the necessary research to see the cause of said difference. My answer would be: he gave a statistic with no context, and while the statistic is factual, his interpretation and implication is false

I'm just pointing out that Politifact will do anything and everything to discredit the right. Trump could say "the world is round" and they'd say "partly true."

Partisanship is terribly rampant, especially this election cycle and administration

 • the numbers came from the Treasury Department, a known enemy of the left

 • That's not where Trump originally got them, though.
