Agreed. The thing is sweaties and streamers hate sbmm, how else would they pad their kdr and show off? Funny stream, the guy is hip firing sniper head shots regularly, not even quick scope, probably thats where the Dead Man's Tale Catalyst idea comes from :) The advertise goes, you must have this weapon, god rolls etc. to lure everyone in while the video is showing casuals getting trashed. aka Doesn't make for good entertainment unless its pub stomping Advertise it against your own level players Lets see who Bungie is gonna listen...

Sadly, people want to see those videos confusing them with displays of great skill. They're high skill players for sure, but they're just swotting flies now. Like watching Olympic athletes beating children.

  • pretty sure the “sweats” were upset because it took longer to match a team the better you were. Spending 10 minutes to play a control match doesn’t seem fun for anyone

  • How bout the PvP not be personality driven? Perhaps you can help me to understand something. Why do famous people even matter so much to how PvP works, either in the positive or the negative? Why do people worry so much about what they think "sweaties and streamers" want? It's just an honest question that you do not have to answer if you don't want to.

  • because if people see a streaming getting 50 kills in a game with a gun thats hard to get it makes those people go grind it thinking the will own as well boosting bungies numbers in playlist and keeps people in the game.

  • There's not necessarily anything wrong with that. Just as long as the entire game isn't centered on that kind of thing. It can actually be a good thing when stuff like that happens organically instead of being force fed to us. Stuff like that does bring the community together at times.

  • Basic social psychology. It's the same reason people obsess over celebrities. And it's hardwired. A study of monkeys found they would even refuse food just to get to see videos of high ranking individuals. Whether they have useful information or are just perceived to be authorities, we gravitate to them. That of course only increases their alluring status even more. That matters here because they unquestionably have influence. Their opinions have a wide platform and are parroted almost verbatim after they've brought it up. And they do this collectively. The top Streamers all have connections, many groups know each other. In the case of SBMM, many of them, whom we know are friends SIMULTANEOUSLY put out anti-sbmm videos, videos suggesting they were thinking of quitting because of it, etc. Bungie knows their influence. Some employees personally know and play with them Bungie sends them expensive, luxury gifts (not speculation but even openly declared in their media). Bungie gives them private invites, etc etc. So no real surprise to find, where possible, they're accommodated and certainly listened to as influencial 'experts'. And sometimes they are, but **they are not representative** and as prone to group think as any other.

  • I totally agree with you about their influence and the fact that they get benefits but when it comes to SBMM all that is is a mess of social psychology and behavioral science that has no place in a game like Destiny except for the one mode that its kept to for people who want that kind of experience. Any large group is going to have people who are more influential than others. And streamers do in fact provide a service. The stuff I use them for is stuff that I'm just straight up not going to do myself because of how much time it would take. None of that changes the fact that people seem to be giving them more power than they would otherwise have by linking them to every single occurrence in the game.

  • On the last point, I agree. That they're sometimes blamed and perceived to have complete influence. But equally they're not 'guilt free' in this either, even if we can quantify how much and of what. Same as Luke Smith, who's become a kind of toxic brand. We'll never know what and how much of which Destiny 2 strategies were directly from him, rather than from his leads, but equally he is not going to be exonerated either.

  • Oh they are most definitely not guilt free and imo have even been reckless with some of the decrees they have put out in the past. That's part of being a leader though. If they want the credit and benefit for good things then they have to take responsibility for the bad things when they apply to them. As far as Luke, people are just so ridiculous when it comes to him at this point that I refuse to even entertain criticism about him anymore. Of course he isn't beyond criticism but with the people on here and some throughout the community they just got so bad that discussing anything like that adds no value whatsoever imho. Too many people take what could be constructive or funny or whatever and just ruin it for the rest of us so I don't even go there anymore.

  • Not all the streamers! ZKMushroom is quite outspoken on this topic. He wants sbmm back as he is tired of stomping on scrubs like me! He actually wants a challenging crucible format re-introduced. So if top players want it and lower skilled players want it, Bungie needs to listen and bring back sbmm now!

The thing is with someone like ZKMushroom the only difference is that he will be stomping on upper middle tier players constantly instead of everyone. I feel like if above average players are supposed to be stomped by these people, and usually with terrible environmental quality, then why shouldn't everyone have to be and the quality will generally be better?
