I was playing with one of my friends the other day who hasn't played in a long time, and while we were playing he was inspecting his gear looked over at the infusion option and said "what's an enhancement core?"
I have sincere worries about bringing new players into D2 when the year 1 content becomes free to play. It will be hard to have a new player who was curious, but not necessarily interested in the series to keep playing when they have to abandon a cool weapon because they won't have the resources to upgrade that weapon's attack power.
Yes they do have avenues to obtain cores in the form of masterworked leviathan gear, gunsmith bounties, and a rare chance from dismantling weapons. But 2 of those 3 avenues require a player to want to play the game enough to go down those routes...
My point is even though some of us (including me) have plenty of cores, they could be a turn off for new players come September.
TL:DR New players good. Cores bad.
Edit: I made this post because my entire friends list had said that they will play this game when it becomes free to play but one of my friends who played this game became disappointed BECAUSE he had to leave his favorite guns behind practically every 5 power levels. He hasn't played the game since he mentioned it. And another friend quit because his 2 favorite year 2 weapons require cores he doesn't have. So I know that this topic will be a determining factor into their interest in playing this game.
I know that my friends would enjoy this game, but I don't want them to have this steep price to play how you want. Especially when they play other games that don't demand steep sacrifices early-ish in their time playing.
And I AM NOT calling for enhancement cores to be removed, they are simply just a steep asking price for newer players (who would only have 2 or 3 free methods to obtain them) to use their favorite gear. And for those saying they make using gear a meaningful choice. Yes they do kind of. They flow like water for people who know how to farm them and play the game a good amount already and are as scarce as copper for new players. Yes I understand it won't be a problem for them in TIME. But that's way after their first impression has settled.
If there was a workaround to where newer players could not be turned off while still providing a meaningful choice for infusion I believe many players would be satisfied. (Perhaps reducing the core cost to 1 or 2 while doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling the glimmer cost since that would still limit infusions but make infusion more pertinent to time invested rather than luck.)

Изменено (Ben_Is_Orion): 6/24/2019 3:18:30 PMNew players are going to have to grind for every single resource aren't they? Completing the Banshee bounties will just be part of the overall resource grind. I know cores are more scarce, but those bounties can be completed while grinding for other resources. I started the season with 160ish cores. I do the daily and weekly bounties. I level up my gear in 5-10 level increments. I shoot for 10 but sometimes I get impatient. Between the bounties, scrapping items, drops in Crucible, not wasting them, etc. I haven't dropped below a hundred yet. With my max gear on, I'm sitting at just under 750 (was 700 at the start of the season). However, I haven't been a new player in almost a year and I've never started an alt character. Like the power boost bounties, maybe they can have something for new players that rewards them with a bucket of cores, and piles of planetary resources.
-
I'm a day one player and I don't understand why they still have this core crap in the game....I dismantled so much stuff to get cores because I refuse to grind of those stupid things...so my characters just look like hot zhit until I reach max light then I will infuse.
-
Yep, it's just an artificial mechanic to increase grind. I have not heard a single, decent, positive reason for cores to remain. I suspect Bungie aren't bothering to fix this issue because cores might not have any relevance in the next expansion. Probably just wishful thinking though
-
9 months in, still no horrible consequence to removal proposed. That's crucial when so many reasons have been given for taking them out.
-
If they play the game, they will be fine.
-
Yes, absolutely. As someone who started just a couple weeks ago after leaving after CoO, cores are the worst thing ever. I am struggling to catch up to everyone because I constantly run out of cores (and I do all the bounties every day and purchase two cores from spider every day). Its absolutely BS. I shouldn't be forced to use blue gear or legendary gear in place of exotics because I run out of cores constantly updating good gear.
-
The meaningful choice thing is BS. Certain guns are the best for whatever activity you’re doing, go into a raid or comp with the wrong guns and you’re seriously disadvantaged. So no one CHOOSES, it’s basically mandatory to have certain gear infused. So then you have one loadout for PvE and one for PvP (if you’re lucky) and by the time you have enough cores to look at other things the bloody light level goes up again. They also deliberately make HIDEOUS gear that they know no one wants, so if you don’t want to look like a walking dustbin you have to infuse Why Bungie wants everyone to only use 1-2 sets of guns at all times is beyond me. Actually it’s not, it’s to inflate the grind, maddening
-
I started re-playing the game like 2 weeks ago because of the positive things i've seen but the game is so demanding, I don't think new players will stick around if it continues to be this way, too much grind for no meaningful reason, I'm trying so hard to play on my alts again but i really can't find the time and just the thought of playing the CoO and WM campaigns is discouraging, also too many activists require fireteams which isn't as bad but sometimes i just wanna chill alone. Hope they fix these things, imo the sandbox peaked at beginning of d1 TTK. Yeah and i still havn't bought the annual pass because i don't have time for them.
-
Cores for infusion should go. BTW, I have hundreds of cores and I still think it's a shity system.
-
Im not buying Shadow Keep if something is not done about Mastercores, no way ima buy a DLC so i can spend more time Grinding for infusion Materials rather than enjoying the content, even though it will be Recycled content
-
They keep talking about meaningful choices. I try to make meaningful choices in real life not in a video game. It’s for fun not work. The game feels more like getting a savings bond for your birthday than a new bicycle at this point. I hope they go more casual with the new expansion.
Cores bad.
This game has shifted from a looter shooter to a farming simulator. Farm cores, farm glimmer, farm legendary shards, farm enemies, farm bounties... Infusion should be effortless since it's combining two items you already own. Masterwork cores were good for adding the orb producing ability if you choose to, but not for infusion.

Изменено (TripleF73): 6/25/2019 12:55:26 AMI agree wholeheartedly with your post. I’ve been a big proponent of the removal of cores from infusion. Having played a new character on my son’s account from scratch, I can tell you categorically, many new players that get the game for free won’t stick around. I have 200+cores, I hated them when they were introduced, I hate them now. They were brought in to extend the grind and progression due to lack of loot and things to do. I even stopped playing for 3 months after grinding out and collecting 200+ cores in preparation for Jokers Wild. They pissed me off that much. That is no longer as true as it was (more core bounties and more loot), yet Bungie has deliberately dug their heels in and refused to remove them from infusion. If they aren’t removed from infusion, in Shadowkeep I won’t be buying it. I get access to everything except story and raids, come New Light. That’ll be alright by me, as Bungie haven’t written a good story in game EVER, it’s all been in grimoire. So I’ll read it at Ishtar or watch Byf. As for the raids with the exception of Last Wish none of the raids, or the way the raids are structured, are as good as D1, so I doubt I’ll miss anything there either. (Proviso haven’t played CoS yet) Going free-to-play means Bungie actually have to entice those of us who already have all the content, up-to the end of the Season Pass, to buy Shadowkeep. Unless they listen to the big group of “hobbyists” between the casuals and hardcore, Bungie are going to fail. “The ol’ bait n’ switch from the Bungievision days ain’t gonna cut it no more.”
-
Bungie doesn´t care and they told Cozmo and dmg to ignore this posts.
-
Every time I get an email from bungie, like 'check out new dlc for destiny' or 'congrats on completing this or that' I always reply to their email with " remove cores from infusion and maybe I'll buy your DLC or play more" every single chance I get lol.
-
Once you realize you're playing the same recycled content over and over again to raise a number, you'll finally be able to begin the process of getting off the hamster wheel. This game is built by a greedy, immoral company that doesn't care about you, me, or any of the other players that roam their world. Stop playing for a week and you'll see.
-
They'll probably sell cores at Eververse. For silver.

Изменено (TheShadow-cali): 6/23/2019 3:26:59 PMIn D1 I thought it was nuts for gamers to restart a character, but now that I look at it, they were far better off running a new character in D1 vs D2. Mainly because any character you used could also collect gear for the other ones you used. In D2 they removed that future among many other things that made D1 what it was that gave that sense of value. I will not start any character over in D2 because what Bungie has done to this game. I don't even really want to level up any other character, only my Titan. This trade-off they have been doing with the cores has ruined me wanting to level all 3 as I did every DLC that came out in D1. It's just not worth the time doing all that grinding and have nothing to show for it. Edit: For every single one of you gamers that say, "but they added more ways to acquire them"? Every single one of you guys that say this shows me and everyone else how you literally do not see since the cores have been part of the infusion that it's been nothing but a trade-off every time they change something. So even if they add more ways to acquire them the cost for other things go up that it's been minimal at best adding more ways to acquire cores. You also don't even see this that gamers ignore...
how long have most of you been playing this game and how many hours do you put into this game each day? See, when the cores were introduced, where was the max power level? What I'm getting at is, new gamers didn't have the events like Dawning playing Susie homemaker backing cookies to collect all them cores, the power level wasn't one level at a time to infuse items that it was easier to level up. The cost for infusion wasn't as much as it is now nor to masterwork an item among other things I can bring up. Most of the gamers on here don't look at how easy it was to level up back then, then it is now. So for most of you, knowing you have been playing since cores were added as part of the infusion it has been easy for you to save up cores because you were on top the whole time. Not only that? I can guarantee that most of you don't max out most of your gear and weapons in this game mainly because most of the gear alone is worthless that it's not worth anyone's time to acquire them. Gamers say how easy it is but don't look at 2 major things that I said... 1 you were here the whole time and had it easy from the beginning up until now knowing certain things like dawning were added to the game. The other? The cost always goes up with things in this game leaving this game no further than it was the day cores were introduced as part of the infusion.
(A trade-off does not benefit the game at all, and that is a fact.) It's only saying we are staying at the same level since the day cores were introduced as part of the infusion, and we/Bungie don't plan on actually improving it even though we're creating that illusion that some of you (constantly fall for that we're "improving things") This is not how anything in this game should be handled.
-
Yea, they hurt many old players as well let alone new players which they will greatly effect as you mention. Bounties are not a great way to resolve this as you have to actively change your playstyle to complete them. Motes of light were better in this regard as they were earned through xp.

Изменено (SwankyButters): 6/24/2019 7:50:34 AMAnyone remember what it took to upgrade weapons and armor in D1, I know it wasn't 4 things. This game really knows how to take the fun... out of fun. PS: I'm longing for the days of D1... how sad is that...
-
Изменено (Feltharion): 6/24/2019 7:39:15 AMThey should return how the infusion used to work. I hate how expensive the new one is (and I don't refer to the glimmer, but the amount of resources, wtf, seriously), I can't use what I like because of that.

They made all of D1Y1 free before Forsaken came out, didn't they? Sure it bumped up the number of registered users by almost 1.5 million but, within a month, daily numbers and player retention was right back where it was. It arguably didn't expand the player base by any significant margin. I hardly think they will make much difference when it becomes permanently free to play, and enhancement cores is just one of the reasons. If you look at the numbers, Destiny has always been a franchise that has lost two thirds of its players for good, and it's probably much worse in the age of D2. D1 had 20 million registered users by Nov of Y2, whereas D2 is under 15 million by June of Y2 (with the yearly cycle beginning in Sept). Essentially after an extra eight months D2 is over 5 million behind in growth. I hardly think people will come in droves to be way behind in a game with terrible word of mouth. They're just trying to pump up the number of registered users and they don't care if they're people that play for a few weeks and quit, because they're just trying to change the numbers so it's not seen as a franchise obviously in decline so they can get investors.
-
cores should have never been implemented, they made me quit , but then again a break from destiny was awesome , unless they remove cores i will not buy any future content
-
I cant be bothered. infusion was bad enough a year ago the first time I quit. there is no way I want to level the gear in my inventory in some dripfed system.

Изменено (Cyber-fox88): 6/24/2019 12:26:07 AMbecause of destiny 2s bad rng and enhancement core infusion problem i stopped playing destiny 2 altogether as a resault. haven't touched destiny 2 for about a month now and couldn't be happier i left the hamster wheel that is destiny 2 and enjoying myself as i play other games. i still have destiny 2 installed but waiting to see what changes in the dlc which i will not buy unless they remove enhancement cores from infusion like ski0723 said below bungie is a greedy game componey that really doesn't care about there players any negative feedback they get is removed and they keep only positive feedback. in the end they want people to play it there way or not at all.
