Rather than force NFL teams to change their names?
I agree through. The Washington Redskins should change their name. It's embarrassing to have "Washington" on there.

69 RespostasRedskins is racist as hell.
-
It's so stupid that people will look for things to be offended by. It's just a damn word. There is no message being output by the team for using that name, and anyone who feels they should change their name or is offended by it needs to take off their diaper and -blam!-ing deal with it.
-
Reminds me of the South Park episode of the South Park flag.

The term "Redskins" is actually quite derogative.

Oh the subthreads in this thread...

"Uncle" was a common term used by the southern states referring to older male Black slaves or servants.

I'm a rich southern girl and I sell brownies.

We need to ban the word "brown bag" and "brownies" too. So racist.

52 RespostasThis is absolutely stupid. This accomplishes nothing. Oh no! The name might hurt a small group of people's feelings! We have to change the name!
-
I don't care for tv sports, and I think that it's stupid to have a name like that. (I descend from both Cherokee and Creek) But what of the first amendment? The government really has no say in this. I don't even think it's racist anymore. It's almost glorifying when used in this sense. And does the current team hold such bigotry? Cause if they don't how can it be racist? And if it is racist, so what? Are we going to blind and mute the world so no one can say or see anything offensive?

2 RespostasPolitical correctness is a cancer.

6 RespostasI don't see the problem, Native Americans aren't offended by the name, so why are liberals getting their panties in a bunch over this?

And the NFL isn't making them change there name, they lose the trademark so now other groups of people can make money off the name. So this whole thing is a money grab.

muh feelings

>implying the government is like, 6 people, and can only focus on one thing at a time.

1 ResponderPeople rather watch football than defend their freedom.

I saw that Yeah it's stupid. More political correctness.

1 ResponderHow come they don't get mad at the Cleveland Indians for their name?
-
2 RespostasI never thought of the name as racist until recently. After looking at it though, I can see how the name would be offensive. It's be like having a team called "The Washington Darkies" or "The Washington Wetbacks" or "The Washington Honkies". The reason most people don't seem to be concerned about it is because most of us haven't come in contact with a Native American.
-
I get what you're trying to say and all but how hard is to change the name. If a lot of people find it offensive and changing the name is easy, I don't see what the big deal would be. But idk I haven't really researched this myself. Not really sure who it's hurting and the general name changing procedures/effects it would have on the team.

Are they really trying to force them to change the name? The government should be focusing on other things.
