Kell's Fall Fikrul Fight is Too Annoying on Expert

I got to the final part of the story where I run the version where we fight Fikrul and decided to just do it on expert. I had done it twice in a row and felt pretty confident I could solo it. I started, and the difficulty was definitely ramped up. I had to play very carefully, but I was having a decent time. I would even say I was having a bit of fun. Of course I had some bumps and tripped a few times, but then I finally got to Fikrul at last. This is when I started to get frustrated. I struggled and struggled with changing my builds and loadouts and strategy to even get to a damage phase, but that infinite Grim spam is just too much. Evasive aerial units with tiny hitboxes and a constant stream of homing bullets aren't a bad design for an enemy, but make them tanky and infinitely respawn with little delay while also having to deal with a timer is just aggravating. Yes, it's "hard," but is it really a "good" hard? "Fun" and "Frustrating" are not synonymous. I finally found something that works for me (that being to just give the game a big middle finger and use what I want to use regardless of the stupid surge mods) and was able to get to a damage phase. I then proceeded to slam Fikrul down about 20% of his hp and had to fall back to heal, then was shocked to see the phase end after only doing about 1/5th of his hp. I got to a damage phase again and screwed it up big time because I didn't notice you needed to shatter the mirror first. This feels almost as bad as a dungeon boss, and I can't stand solo'ing dungeon bosses. Why does Bungie think "do the same thing over and over and over and over, but don't mess up or you'll have to start all over again" is fun? My patience, attention, and will to continue started to wane here and I made a mistake. I gave up after that and just pulled 2 other guardians from lfg and we cleaned house effortlessly. Too bs when solo, too easy in a group.

  • Yeah it can be annoying but in all honesty i found choir on expert a bit more challenging than this.

Huh… After a single clear on Normal I progressed the Seasonal Questline to the point of being able to brew the new Tonics then went back in for a Solo Master run. When I got to the final boss I just had to fight the Hangman (fire flail guy) again rather than Fikrul. Completion counted toward the Catalyst Quests and Master Triumph. I would assume that there might be a means of launching previously cleared versions of the Mission through a drop down menu when selecting the difficulty, as was the case with Encore during the previous Episode. Edit: After having completed the Episode Questline I can confirm that there does not seem to be any way to launch the previous versions of Kell’s Fall. That said I have since done a Solo Master run of the Activity with Fikrul as the final boss and did not find the experience unnecessarily difficult with the build I used. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)
