5 RespostasNo. What I always find fascinating is how and why authoritarians always believe that the rest of the world is defined by their limited view of it. Let this "liberal" let you in on a little secret. Liberals are Liberals because they have the ability to see things from multiple points of view at the same time, WITHOUT losing their own, or losing their own sense of identity in the process. Which is why you hear them speak of empathy. I don't dismiss Kavanaugh's accusers out of hand, because I have the ability to see things from THEIR point of view. To have a sense of what it would be like to try to come forward to accuse someone very powerful of misconduct, in an cultural environment where the tendency is to believe the accused and -blam!--shame the accuser. I know that these things are drastically under-reported because of this....and am experienced enough to know that they often unfold JUST like this in situations (Bill Cosby) where you are dealing with someone who has a predatory relationship to women. But I'm trying to explain the concept of "Blue" to someone who is functionally color-blind. The bottom line is that Kavanaugh's professional colleeagues are lining up to say that he's disqualified himself. Including retired Justice Stevens. This would give a REASONABLE person pause, and cause for concern.

Humans take pride in and defend and identify themselves by SO many things that they never even chose to begin with. That none of us ever chose. I guess I understand why marginalized groups and those that are looked down upon for these things(specifically for ethnicity, sex, sexuality) do assert their identity through these things though. I just find it absurd that they have to do so in the first place. I’ve had the realization that I chose next to nothing about the circumstances of my existence, and that neither has anyone else. This includes biological sex, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, geography, and even beliefs regardless of whether they be called religious or not. We don’t even choose to exist in the first place. As a result I’ve concluded that the most reasonable way to view most things is through an empathetic lens. To give people the benefit of the doubt and actually talk to them and try to understand what they’re feeling. My inability to relate to someone’s situation, doesn’t negate their situation.
