So many people think Final Shape is the end
This isnt about the YouTuber in question, as such, this guy's a cod streamer, this is more about misinformation or the lack of information made available by bungie. People like this reach very wide & far & I'd believe this 100% if I didn't know nothing was actually official. Like if I started playing Warframe & a big youtuber said it was ending this year, I'd believe him, why wouldn't I?
Merk, with 4.3m subs, so a big reach, says several times it's destiny 2s final dlc. Now that's likely not true, but this is what happens when bungie say nothing about the future. Gamers in general, going off twitter & a few forums I've read, assume this is the end of the game & even a lot of destiny players have stopped playing because they think it's over this year, I've seen lots just buying FS but not episodes because why bother if the story's over.
Read an article a few days ago about gaming's future & live service & the guy said extraction shooters are the next big thing & once destiny ends this year & bungie fully focus on marathon, they're going to take gaming into a new era. This appears to be a common thing in comment sections & forums.
Do bungie need to address this, especially given the end 'perception' could adversely affect sales.
Personally if this is the end I wouldnt buy final shape, I'm not a story guy & don't care about finishing out the storyline, but if I knew there was more to come I'd carry on playing & buying.

If some internet personality makes a claim about the future of a franchise you should always follow it up with independent research. Blindly believing things based on the word of a stranger is silly dear. You don't know Merk, so you have no reason to take him at his word.

7 RespostasI decided some time ago that I'd see this game through to the end, including the episodes post-Final Shape. I intend to step away from Destiny (and probably live-service games altogether) for a while after that, so I can't say I've given much thought about what comes after at this point.

Lack of a roadmap before TFS drops would suggest to me it depends heavily on TFS sales (maybe also what’s happening with Marathon). Personally, I’m happy to play whatever I’m having fun with, regardless of what may or may not be happening a year or so down the line.

The final shape will be the end of the light and dark saga. Whether bungie continue with spin off in the destiny universe is not known, only rumoured. All of this is based of what bungie has shared concerning the future of D2 in the past couple of years.

Bungie was weighing pulling the plug on d2 in 2018… They “may” do something later, but I would expect at least a year or two break after 2024 with the episodes… if, big IF, Bungie does anything at all. They will turn their focus on marathon, fully, to get it out. Since they pulled everyone from marathon to focus on destiny and the upcoming episodes, they will need all hands on deck to get marathon caught up and out. I would be shocked if destiny gets a 2025 dlc release at least.

It’s only the end for the light and dark chapter of the game not destiny two as it was stated in the ViDocs detailing what to come next after the final shape DLC with episodes replacing the seasonal model.

I mean it IS the end of the L&D saga. Bungie has said as much. It's quite obviously not the end of Destiny 2 given the Epsiodes coming after. As far as it being the last DLC, we don't know, but context clues point to us NOT getting one on the same schedule we've got the last few, even accounting for delays. And yeah, Bungie IS going to focus on their extraction shooter, as they should. It's their brand new game, and with the lack of recent Destiny success as it pertains to their expectations/goals, they need it to do well. Desitny isn't ending, but those people aren't spreading misinformation either. Nobody knows if it's true or not. At worst, they're incorrectly guessing based on context.
