Current statistics according to steam charts mmo stats, and war mind. (All numbers rounded)
To put this in perspective, in September when bungie implemented sbmm, steam had an average of 88,000 players.
As of the last 30 days steam is currently down to 45,000 players. Almost a 50% drop in steam player base.
Due to iron banner being active and it’s a weekend the current player count is elevated. Approximately 303,000 total players are playing crucible. Approximately 32% of all players. Of this, 282,000 are playing iron banner and only 21,000 are playing all other crucible activities. (Mind you banner is CBMM atm)
As a whole, in august the game averaged 293,000 players a day. (August was CBMM in control). As of today, the average daily player count is 108,000 for the month. That is a massive 64% total player loss in just over 3 months.
The only significant change to the game during this time was the implementation of SBMM.
The next big change is coming soon, and bungie is doubling down on sbmm. So for those who support this, how can you support a matchmaking parameter that is clearly hurting the game in a significant way.
Bungie hand picks statistics to throw out to make it look good. But when you sit back as a whole and look for yourself, these are the numbers we currently find.

SBMM is needed for the overall health of this game. I'm glad they are adding it to even more playlists. And people don't have to play destiny everyday. There's many reasons why people stop playing.

2 RespostasEditado por The Hermit IX: 11/21/2022 9:12:07 PMThe game is at very slow point. Hardly anyone is active in my clan atm so if overall numbers are down PVP numbers will be too.

4 RespostasAll i remember is that everyone was complaining about sbmm ruining their games..... before Bungie actually implemented it.

2 RespostasHave you taken into consideration that people tend to stop playing towards the end of the season?
Talk about hand picking statistics
-
2 RespostasAnd the percentage will go up when something is added or changed and at the end of the season it will go down, up and down, up and down etc etc. Don’t be so dramatic it has happened before and it won’t be the last.

2 RespostasEditado por ThatGuy: 11/21/2022 8:32:09 PMI'm more interested to see what the numbers are when the new season launches, seems like a better way to see how many people are engaged with Destiny long term. The numbers are low right now because we are at the end of the current season and the seasons have been pretty week (IMO) this year. I'm sure the numbers will be lower than last years 4th season but by how much is what will matter. Game is 8 years old and a lot of new games have come out recently, this just doesn't surprise me. Edit: 4th season not 3rd, we're in season 3.

I got tired of all the higher KD having Their Way!.

4 RespostasSbmm wasn't the reason lol maybe a few spoilt rats that wanted to play against kids instead of their own skill level might of left but if thats why they left the games best off without them or just maybe it was the huge ban wave of cheaters and network manipulation users could add to the people missing which I'm glad bungie did tbh . Comes lightfall all players will be back don't worry most people are taking a break till the new expansion

5 RespostasIt’s misleading to attribute the entire drop in player count to SBMM. PVE players started leaving before SBMM was announced, which is one of the reasons Bungie rolled SBMM out. There are some who have stopped playing, but most of those complaining about SBMM are either dummy accounts, or are like OP - still playing. I’m not saying you shouldn’t complain. If you don’t like SBMM, speak up! I’m just suggesting you not be misleading. It makes you *look* desperate to people who know better, which would be unfair to your cause.

5 RespostasU d know the majority of the plate base is on console right steam is the smallest player base now that stadia is gone

Editado por Malygos: 11/21/2022 4:49:33 PMReminder the dev abusing flawless pool in trials had a .3kd these are the people who want sbmm and the reason the devs listen is because they're equally as terrible at the game.

1 ResponderWhat was wrong with your previous topic of exact same? :( https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/262043979 Just left it there to rot.

18 RespostasIt could be that just burn out finally got to them or went to try other games and went to enjoy them for a bit, I know I did with warframe, cyberpunk and warthunder (hell on earth) but I purely am just waiting for the season to be other to actually do anything

Doesn't matter what they do to Pvp, it'll always be shite!

Editado por A_mo: 11/21/2022 1:36:41 PMDefinitely not a fan of SBMM as a matchmaking system or "philosophically" but there are other things that contributed to the player population going down. Multiple games came out and you can look and see that the population dropped at basically same time each of the three big games that came out this season released. Any time the pve population isn't a ton higher than the pvp population you can tell that its not just a matter of things that are going on with PvP and its really hard to discern from the numbers on api sites how much what's going on with PvP contributes to what's going on with the game's population as a whole. Like last year it did seem like trials was having a positive effect on PvE numbers but, at least from what DT says right now, the PvE numbers are lower than PvP which kind of shows there's other things going on. The game's coming into the last quarter of a yearly release with other games coming out and it was a year where the "casual" (whatever that means) portion of the community was catered to a little more so those people shouldn't really be expected to play the game every single day until the last day of the season in large numbers. And there's the other game's coming out thing. And then there's just the internet which the way social media works can both work for and against the game really without anything being connected to reality. Don't want to type to much but SBMM does have serious issues both in terms of player perspective and gameplay quality and how that is fairly distributed. It did also have some success though. Definitely not for some people but for the people it was supposed to make things better for it largely did and they've said there are further adjustments coming. Just wanted to point out that SBMM isn't all bad. It works for certain parts of the player population but at the same time that does come with a cost that shouldn't be ignored.
