There was so much build up and lead up to a mission that was instantly like "oh yeah, Calus is gone now and with the wittness, so he's no longer our problem now".
It was super anticlimactic. Very short.
The entire storyline was about other people's emotional struggles while our characters - "Guardian" - merely played a supporting role as nothing more than a hired gun. A prop.
No matter how it ended the fact is it has nothing to do with OUR story, so why would we be invested? We aren't. I'm just glad it was over honestly. I was glad it was so short.

That's crazy how you just posted actual cringe.. Why would you do that
That's crazy how you just posted actual cringe.. Why would you do that
I just have a different opinion than you and that's okay. But you are trying to support yours with just factually incorrect nonsense. It's almost like you've never played a real online game with RPG elements and have no idea what I'm talking about. Saying we're "part of the story because we were there when X events happened" isn't character development.
-
It's literally not meant to build our character.. we were there to help our friends deal with past trauma. It shouldn't be a difficult concept to grasp. No idea why you're getting mad about something that was never going to exist there in the first place.

What part of that is so confusing to you? You're the one getting all aggro over it when I'm merely offering a suggestion as to WHY we all feel so let down with the conclusion of this storyline. So congrats, you don't even know the context of something before you start flinging -blam!- at the wall.

Its called world building. That your character isnt the only one that leads lives. Crow still having regrets about what he did as Uldren, Zavala grieving over his son and his relationship with the late Saifyha, and Caital who has an inner conflict not with only Ghaul but her father Calus as well. All this still ties into the main plot of the egregore, nightmares, and pyramids.
Its called world building. That your character isnt the only one that leads lives.
No argument here. Quite the opposite, our character is the only one that has no life at all whatsoever from what I can tell.

Editado por reenry: 7/7/2022 5:15:01 PMYeah. Which is fine. Ive been conditioned to the point if they add constant voice lines to my character I’d feel out of place. Like woohoo one voice line but theres nothing wrong with silent protag. You’re character is only as developed in lore as long as you have been playing Destiny. I love the random quips about me being a God slayer.

We’re being taught about the nature of The Darkness, as well as the emerging struggle against The Witness.
-
We’re being taught about the nature of The Darkness, as well as the emerging struggle against The Witness.
That's just not all that interesting though. I don't play FPS games for a history lesson. We invest tons of time into our characters but if the story has zero to do with us, how can we be personally invested in it? Destiny 2 is towing a strange line between a regular "lobby shooter" and an MMOFPS RPG. Obviously this has been a succesfull model for them, but I feel if they really leaned into more RPG character development elements, it would be even more compelling.

They are leaning into it, and you’re complaining about them doing it….
-
They are leaning into it, and you’re complaining about them doing it….
How so? All these stories and development are about all the characters around us, but nothing ABOUT us specifically. We're not central to anything. You could replace our "Guardian" with any other person with a gun and nothing would change. We're irrelevant and none of our choices have any consequences for us. At all.
-
They are telling the story from a first-person point of view. The story of your character is your actions and experiences in the game. The story the game is telling us about the larger events you are a part of.
-
They are telling the story from a first-person point of view. The story of your character is your actions and experiences in the game. The story the game is telling us about the larger events you are a part of.
I don't think you know what "character development" actually means because this ain't it. Do you know ANYTHING about your character in this game? I don't mean what you've done, but I mean the person under the armor. Do you?
-
You’re not listening. And you are invoking things that are only relevant in third-person storytelling. Not first-person.
-
You’re not listening. And you are invoking things that are only relevant in third-person storytelling. Not first-person.
No you are not listening to me or you've never actually played an MMORPG before or else you would get what I'm saying. There are LOTS of first person games where we have real character development so what you are saying doesn't even make sense.
-
https://artofnarrative.com/2021/01/15/first-person-point-of-view-what-it-is-how-to-use-it/ No. You have lots of games that play in first-person but then lapse back into third-person storytelling. Because it’s easier and it’s what most people (like you) are used to. Destiny tells the story of the game from a pure first person perspective. Your guardian isn’t some puppet you are observing. He or she is YOU. You experience the story as if you are LIVING it. Your “character progression” is how you are changed by the game, and how deeply and thoughtfully you interact with it. Like the real world.

I don't know who or what I've lost, if anything. I don't know what I like to eat. I don't know if I have dreams. I don't know my biggest fear. Did I go to school? Am I a virgin? Do I have a family? If so, what happened to them? Are they dead? Why do I fight? What is my motivation to KEEP fighting? What am I fighting for? What do I want to do with my life when the fight is over? I could go on and on and on. When we don't have answers to any of these questions, and more, we aren't "characters" in the true sense. We're worst than puppets. We're soulless robots. Good god are they not even teaching Creative Writing in schools anymore? You kids don't know -blam!- about good writing and character development.

Editado por TheArtist: 7/7/2022 5:42:02 PMWhich means you’re a Guardian. Because those are the limitations under which almost all Guardians/Lightbearers operate under. The only know human exceptions are Ana Bray because she was resurrected wearing an ID badge of her former name and likeness….and Crow. Because of the actions of Savathun. Savathun bypassed it only because of her throneworld.
-
Which means you’re a Guardian. Because those are the limitations under which almost all Guardians/Lightbearers operate under.
LOL!!!! RIght, except for literally EVERY other Guardian character around us for some reason. They get backstories and drama's, but not us. Okay just stop please. You have no idea what we're discussing.
-
No. You stop. Because you are expecting something that has NEVER happened in the life of the franchise and is NEVER GOING to happen, So if that’s the experience you want, go play a different game. The professional writers who work on this game know what they are doing and what kind of experience they want to create. Think you know better? Go make your own game.
-
Wow that's the most pathetic defense ever. I'm not even a Bungie hater, I defend the game a lot here. But you are shilling so hard lol. "Go make your own game" lmao, oh man pathetic. I'm not even criticizing the "game" fool. Also LOL@your "professional writers" defense. Just because someone gets paid to write, doesn't make them good at it! The writing this season has been terrible. It's not like I'm the only one saying that. And I will not let some shill fanboi pissant like you silence me because you don't like the truth.

Editado por TheArtist: 7/7/2022 6:05:20 PMNo. It’s called The Reality Principle. Like I said. Hasn’t happened in 7 years, and in any going to happen in the next three. Don’t like it? Go play something else. Bungie isn’t going to change the narrative to make you happy. You don’t like it. I do. For reasons I won’t waste on you.
-
You really are stupid. I am not criticizing the gameplay at all so why would I "go play something else"? Honestly anyone that even uses that stupid phrase shows how hopeless they are. How about if you don't like what I say here, go to another forum then? Yeah go somewhere else lol. Wannabe gatekeeper 😂

SIGN Language: Shame, Insults, Guilt and the Need to be Right. Signs that you can’t win the argument on the merits. The REALITY of the situation is that NONE of the things you are complaining about have EVER taken place with our characters. We change through action and activity. The world and characters around us change through story l telling. I’m going to point this out for other people’s benefit, as I’m clearly wasting time with you. This season is about how the darkness works on consciousness: painful emotions, trauma, suffering. As well as how these are resolved (in the Light). Eris is playing therapist. As she has gone into darkness, and found her way back. Crow’s journey is one of atonement. Having to face the shame and guilt of his former life, while helpless to change it. He realizes that the solution is acceptance, and to make amends. To make right the things he damaged to rebuild what he destroyed. To learn from his mistakes. Go Forth and Sin No More. Zavala’s journey is one of Grief. There are five stages: Denial; Anger; Bargaining; Sadness; Acceptance. We must complete all five to in order to recover from loss or unwanted change. But Zavala is stuck in Sadness because he carries inappropriate blame and guilt for things that were beyond his control. He realized that he cannot save everyone. That he has to accept the inevitability of change and loss…and let go. Caital journey is one of vulnerability. She must accept that we all have weak points. That trying to cover them up and pretend we don’t need help is weakness and born of fear. Reaching out for help and recognizing our limitations are what true strength is. I have no reason to fear because I believe that I can overcome whatever it is you choose to do. So I’m free to respond rather than trying to fearfully control. Our Guardians role in all of this was to help heal the major leaders of our alliance. By suring up their weak points. Zavala was desperately in need of this as he was losing his ability to effectively command and deal with loss as of a result of his unresolved grief. No the foundation for him to regain his edge has been laid. Our alliance has grown stronger as Zavala and Caital have forged a friendship and not just an alliance…and in Crow we have gained a new leader. As he now has a chance to step out from Mara’s shadow and pathologic control and shine. What you find in a story is what YOU bring to it.

Thank you for that.
