Isn't odd how Destiny 2 has always been

I mean, there are a lot of different opinions about the game, and the things that could be done to improve it. But there are also a lot of things, that are pretty common themes amongst the various communities that kind of seem like no brainers, yet the game never gets there. Destiny 2 has always had a loot problem. And oddly, pretty much every time the developers try to "improve" things, they just seems to -blam!- it up. And I don't think it has anything to do with what is or isn't meta. Or what we can and can't use. I think it centers on the fact that they removed the primary reason people played Destiny 1. Whenever you did something, no matter what it was, there was always a chance of finding something that YOU found more interesting. That YOU felt was "better". How many weeks did we check vendors for rolls? On the same guns? That we could get as drops? That we already had as drops? How many times did we run the same strikes? Do the same Iron Banner? Over and over again. Yet in D2. Systematically, over time. All of that has been eliminated. Or put behind some ridiculously tedious wall. Or time gate. Or any number of hoops? How many of you religiously ran all three characters. Did every quest. Every bountry. Ranked up every faction. Vendor. For the same loot. Over and over again. Yet in D2. With arguably more to do. And up until a week a go, seemingly way more loot. How many of us find ourselves caring less and less. Sticking around on the hope that they finally make the game we thought this was going to be? I don't think Destiny 2 is bad. I don't think Beyond light is bad. I quite enjoy many aspects of the game. It just never feels, great. Always ok, or good enough. And that just seems odd. I am looking forward to doing the season activities for gear. I certainly don't miss some bullshit engram farm like last season. I just wonder if this game is ever actually going to be as good as the sum of it's parts suggest that it could be. **EDIT** Just to be clear, I am not by any means saying Destiny 1 was a better game, or even that it had better loot. What I am saying is that the loot pursuit in Destiny 1 was "better". Not perfect. But better in general.

      • I played D1 for all three of its years and have been playing D2 since it’s launch. Never once has particular rolls of loot ever been anything I cared about. Loot was never the draw for me. It’s a fun game with good gameplay. I need nothing more from it and D2 has delivered consistently.

I considered Destiny 1 to be a terrific game. One of my favorite games of all time. At the end of Year 3, I was hopeful that this game was on the cusp of greatness. It had issues, but seemed to be going in the right direction. Then came Destiny 2. LOL. A clusterf**k of the highest order made by buffoons who had ZERO idea why people played their game. Gigantic leaps backward that took them over year to correct most of it. Even today, they still don't seem to get it sometimes. Now the game just wastes your time while trying to get you to buy things in the Eververse. Hell, the game seems belligerent with how it wastes your time. Almost like its sticking its middle finger at you while you play.

        • In D1 for the most part you could play what you want, get cool stuff, and enjoy yourself. I am a mostly PvE player. I play solo about 75% of the time. In D1 I could grind strikes and get strike specific loot. Join a faction and get loot from them doing stuff I enjoyed. Run around on patrol and hang out while still earning rep twords getting vanguard and faction loot. Do some prison of elders or iron banner to mix things up and get loot from 4 sources. Occasionally raid and get good raid loot. And every dlc there was a full set of 4 armors and weapons to go after. So I did stuff I enjoyed and got loot both passively and actively while doing it. In D2 there's usually 1 seasonal activity that can be done that gives loot. There vanguard doesn't sell armor or a full set of weapons so you can't really go after anything. The planetary vendors never had random rolls so there was never a reason to go for their sets. Iron banner's stuff is generally lame. So for most seasons there's one activity that gives loot. If you don't enjoy that activity or don't want the archetype of weapon it drops there's nothing to do. On top of all of this bungie constantly takes away your loot. Not just the overpowered stuff, all of it. Like the way a particular gun handles and feels? too bad go use something else!! After having this happen time and time again I just gave up.

        • Removal of factions is and will always be my biggest gripe with the game. The factions added much needed personality to the alien mumbo jumbo this game is infested with.

          • I always find it baffling how they took all the learning from the development of D1 over the years, bunch ed it up and pretty much threw it out the window when they came up with D2. I mean really? D1 had its issues, but the game got better and better and to just undo everything with the release of a sequel was sheer stupidity. They should have used all that experience to build on, not start from scratch. It's been catch up ever since and by now it really feels like they don't even care. It's a cash cow now, nothing more, nothing less.

Thank you. This is exactly how I feel. Loot has dried up and it once was a major reason why I would grind 3 characters looking for cool loot. Not being a big PvP fan, I was never searching for the meta “god” rolled gun. Just a fun gun to use till I found something new to use. These days, it seems that the only way we get new loot is by doing quests or tedious multi step tasks. The days of finding new loot simply by playing the game any way you wanted is gone. Fun has taken a back seat to chores.

                • I think the thing about d1 was that legendaries and exotics were actually super infrequent drops, and blues and greens dominated the loot pool, not to mention a legendary engram could drop a blue back in the day. The missions were also considerably harder to do, with a much higher skill ceiling for nightfalls and raids. The issue with reverting d2 to be like that is that every single whiny kid on the forums would just complain the game is too hard. There have been complaints about wanting refunds because the campaign for beyond light is "too difficult" for Christ's sake! God forbid you actually have to work for something in a game. All these entitled people in the game who want to be 50 power above every mission instantly but don't want to work for it. The added difficulty in bl is a blessing, it makes the game way more fun, I hope the raid is super challenging, more challenging and King's fall, last wish, etc, just so I can see all the whiny people complaining about not getting their free raid exotic because they haven't played the raid but two nights ago they "had a dream about completing it" so therefore they deserve to get it.

                      • The answer is rather simple. Destiny 1 was run by a crew with a whole different mindset. Think of how Eververse purchases were never as blatantly shoved down our throat as they are now. The only times that in D1 you had mtx shoved into your face was because of the SRL record book for the SRL cosmetics and armor. That was the start and the worst then and there. Present day, not too long back in the first two years we almost always had a quest/waypoint for Eververse show up on our screen every season/dlc update. Think about how things are now. Why do we run bounties? For exp to level up our gear and characters or for a chance at loot drops? At one point yes, but now half of the highlights regarding vendor bounties now revolve around bright dust, weeklies and repeatables in particular. And where does all of that exp funnel back into? The season pass and Bright Engrams.

                          • Im going tbh here. Beyond light is Bungies first attempt at introducing us to a Non-Activision Bungie game. And to be totally honest, im loving it. They made some tweaks to their engine that allows them to fix things much faster than before. This tells me that they care, about the game. And that makes me more confident in Bungies future with Destiny. Although, there is something that worries me, a lot of talent has left Bungie, and I’m seeing a lot of assets being reused. I just hope that, #1 Bungie gets a larger group of great talent, #2 Starts to push out more creative content. Preferably 2 seasons and 2 “chapters” (1 chapter per season) per year and a bit of focus on competitive playlists in the middle of all of it. Like rebalancing, adding more maps, and a new mode. Would be nice.

                          • Getting loot was so much more fun, because instead of a tedious percentage at a time quest for Gambit, Crucible, or Strikes, it actually had a longer series of shorter to complete steps, so you could actually feel a sense of PROGRESS, instead of "no Adored yet, precision hits only at 70%" after having spent 3 hours already on that same step.

                          • There's things that may not be so readily apparent that make this possibly my favorite expansion they've done. First of all, they have definitely spent time play testing PvP even though with the introduction of Stasis it may not look like it at first. They have refined a lot of stuff to the point where I can understand why they didn't include new maps in the expansion. The spawns work differently on some maps, it loads faster, the weapon balance is on point, the catchup mechanics aren't noticeable, Stasis is actually the exact opposite of the problem that people are complaining it is. There's more, you just have to play it. I play and don't care whether I win or lose and am not constantly saying to myself how something is unfair. They even finally have Dead Cliffs working with control somehow. Play it and see, they changed the spawn system to where it mitigates some of the inherent unfairness of that map's design when it comes to 6v6. And Europa may not be everyone's cup of tea but its right up there with the dreaming city for me. Plus its newer so it showcases some newer tricks as far as lighting and such. I like the story because I like Fallen. The game loads faster and my playstation doesn't sound like its about to take flight when I load into the tower. I'm sorry but some of yall should ask if its even possible for them to make you happy at this point. Yes, sunsetting and seeing all that stuff basically flushed was kind of hard to take at first but 6 months to a year from now it won't be so bad. Actually try to see what it is they are trying to do instead of only looking for the negative and the expansion will start to make much more sense.

No, it isn't odd. Destiny 2 has always had a loot problem because it was built on a foundation whose goal was to CONSTRAIN player power and NARROW the differences in damage output between weapons so that balancing the game for PVP would be easier. With the hope that Crucible would become the next Overwatch, and an e-sport. That notion crashed and burned. But it left Bungie with a game that was completely unsuited to being a loot game. Because the systems were literally designed to NOT ALLOW the things a loot-game's gear system needs to do. So Bungie has been stuck for the last three years trying to OVERHAUL this game while they continued to support it, and we continued to play it. I posted a thread earlier today. Datto made a comment in one of his videos that got me to thinking, and I believe that we are actually seeing "Weapons 2.0" being slowly rolled out right now. Its just that its been happening so slowly, and over such a long period of time (Since Season of the Worthy) that we missed it. I think Bungie isn't just sunsetting weapons. I think they are also using this opportunity to PURGE the weapon system of all the random rolled weapons from the Weisznewski era...and the damage-reload rolls that have been dominating the game. I think they are -blam!- this because they are trying to transform the perk pool and move towards PVE perks that synergize with abilities (Warmind Cells, Stasis, Charged with Light), and towards PVP perks that buff weapon handling. With a goal of creating a functional split in the sandbox, and thus allow them to give us power in PVE without breaking PVP....and give a more balanced sandbox for PVP without kneecapping the power-fantasy of PVE. But that requires Bungie to get the old gear out of the game. ..and I think they are also making it so that guns aren't our only source of power...and therefore the only loot that is relevant.

                              • ThisWickedEarth You make some valid points and I agree that ever verse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

Luke PowerCreep Smith isn’t about Loot/Rewards It’s all about the grind for him. Inflating playtime to justify his purpose in this franchise. Him and his Dev team are also hypocrites. Descaling weapon perks only to allow broken set ups in PvP. Weeding out Rampage, KillClip perks, saying HawkMoon cannot have LItC/ Holding Aces because “GunPlay shouldn’t be decided by luck” only to turn around and implement and allow things like Stasis, seasonal Artifacts and High Energy Fire builds in PvP. It’s laughable. None of those things should be available in PvP. At all. It’s turned all of PvP into Mayhem/ Momentum Control. And then there is pve. SunSetting loot only to turn around and rerelease half of said loot right back to us. Again Nerfing reload perks, rampage, KillClip for what? Making enemies tougher by subtraction? Instituting champions? Restricting loadouts. Granted with the new armor mods it’s not as restrictive but you still can’t use anything you want. No Vendor Refreshes. And they wonder why this games population keeps diminishing..... This Franchise needs a new direction. PS... More Loot is Fun Bungie! Didn’t you learn that from the Dbl NF Rewards? I’ve never seen so many of my PvP clanmates running PvE content until you made this a thing. Why were things like the OG Menagerie so popular? Massive amounts of loot!!! Something you clearly don’t get.
