..and this was going to be your reaction no matter what. This was what I was expecting. Which is why I NEVER argued that people had to like it. Or that they shouldn’t be mad about it. Bungie’s -blam!- up was in the five PREVIOUS years of mismanagement that got them to this point. Not in doing what was necessary from Day One of Destiny 1 to fix it. I said this season was going hurt. I also said that NOTHING had been Sunset for the last six months. Well now it’a gone live. And now this community is experiencing what every other loot gamer goes through when there is a major expansion to a game.

  • Ah, so this reject is still kicking around? Back to the mute section you go. All Bungie managed to do with sunsetting, was just fall in line with every other meh MMO, that puts you on a hamster wheel. They got rid of the one thing that made Destiny different. So, shut up already. You're an embarrassment.

  • Other loot games add a decent amount of new gear to replace your old with though. Bungie completely failed to do this with Beyond Light which was my main worry with sunsetting.

Speak for yourself. If game play didnt trump loot for me, I’d have never made it six years into this franchise. And if they weren’t important to a lot of people, most of those complaining would have left for Borderlands 3 last year

Which is why I don’t own Beyond Light. And why complaint posts are hitting serious numbers. Because the loot is chump change. So I’m speaking for more people than just me.

  • And I spoke for more than myself a year-and-a-half ago when I said this game was going to shed players and be better off for it. That the Unification of Vision that Bungie underwent within their own ranks was going to have to work its way through the player base. We are seeing that process at work. One game can’t be everything to everyone. It winds up being nothing to no one.

So did I. To see the extent of the damage. Meanwhile I haven’t touched it since. And player numbers will continue to go down, as they do after every content release. I know you already know this, don’t play dumb. The question is how MUCH they’ll go down, and time will tell. I’m betting on a lot.

No other game community I’ve ever been a part of behaves like this. Says more about us than it does about Bungie. But when I lose interest in a game or faith in a developer, I simply walk away and don’t look back. Oh, and they won’t go down that much. They’ll simply replace the angry, disillusioned players with new ones who enjoy the game as it is. Halle Berry’s life didnt fall apart because David Justice decided he didn’t want to be married to her anymore. In fact I’m betting more people here know who she is than remember who he is.

  • I have never heard of those two people and I’m not interested in allegory.
angry, disillusioned players
Ooohhhh, so now we’re going back to the “players don’t understand how the game works”mantra, huh? Despite the fact that Bungie has been consistently telling the playerbase that they don’t want us to feel like our time is wasted. Yet are now doing a complete 180 on this and slapping their playerbase in the process, something YOU SAID the playerbase is right to be upset about. Yet we are disillusioned for listening to Bungie? Read my lips. A looter shooter is one part looter, one part shooter. If there is no meaningful loot worth chasing, the running/jumping/shooter portion of the game cannot sustain the game.

  • And because you aren’t, you missed the point. https://images.app.goo.gl/n8t4WznFNEiMVMe47 They were THE Hollywood power couple of the 1990s. She one of the most famous and beautiful actresses of the time. He an all-star outfielder for one of the best professional baseball teams. When he divorced her, her life didn’t fall apart. Arguably it wasn’t even a speed bump. Her greatest professional accomplishments came AFTER he rejected her, and she’s gone on to have other relationships after he left. TLDR: No one is irreplaceable. The game will go on and it will find players who enjoy it for the game it is, and those who resent it for what they imagined and it never became will move on. Like I said, I saw this coming from the day Shadowkeep was revealed, and Smith announced the change in direction for the game. I said then that not everyone was going to like what was going to happen, and that the game would lose some veterans. But it will attract new players, because—-for the first time—-players will start to be able to predict what kind of experience they will have. The game is starting to clearly brand itself.

I said I wasn’t interested in allegory. I don’t know why you interpreted that as an invitation to explain. You entirely ignored the part I highlighted by bolding and italicizing. The game is becoming a looter without loot. The proof is in Collections. A fall expansion that shipped with 23 new legendaries despite sunsetting over 200. So again, spare me the roundabout allegory and praises of Luke Smith, and address the matter at hand.

Last time. Once I explain the meaning, it stops being an allegory, and become a direct statement in answer to the question.. Which you apparently aren’t interested in because it’s slowing your roll. Let me put the dots closer together. 1. This game is a shared space and a shared experience. 2. YOU may be a loot-motivated player, but not everyone who plays a loot-game is. 3. I happen to be a GAME-PLAY motivated player. If the game isn’t fun to play, all the powerful loot in the world (Monster Hunter World) won’t keep my attention. But if the game play loop is satisfying, I can-and-will overlook problems with the loot side of the game (Anthem) 4. At the end of the day we are all in a relationship with this game. We all have different ideas of what this game should be, and one game can’t accommodate them all. Some of you are having the Seven Year Itch right now where you’re realizing that this game is never going to be what you wanted it to be. But as happens in relationships, people who get to that point want to rage at the other person, rather than look at themselves and whether their expectations were fair or reasonable. TLDR: The game is what it is. And the game that Bungie is creating isn’t going to appeal to everyone. If you don’t like it go play something else. Because what you’re doing right now is the digital equivalent of going to sit at the bar everyday at a restaurant you don’t like, just to bad mouth the food and the service. I don’t suggest you actually try that in the real world.

    Jesus Christ dude.
A looter shooter is one part looter, one part shooter. Answer me how 23 new weapons is supposed to keep the loot pool fresh and keep players interested. Because if Reddit is any indication, getting a Long Shadow as a campaign rewards is NOT how you give players incentive in a looter. shooter. I’m not interested in your allegories or fluff. Answer the question straight or we are done here.

Because the weapons don’t have fixed rolls. So the important question is how many different variations of those weapons ate they...and how differently do they perform from one another? Losing 200 weapons that are basically copies of one another and basically perform the same is no great loss. OTOH, 23 well-designed weapon, that pull from a deep perk pool may be more than enough to keep us happily grinding for three months until the next batch drops. You see, this community loves to go off half-cocked, and people are acting as if 23 weapons are all we are going to get for the **year** . When the truth is whatever we get now just needs to get us through this **season**. Ninety percent of what Bungie sunset was just gathering dust in people’s vaults.

In YOUR vault. What will replace Warden’s Law? What will replace Militia’s Birthright? Subtle Calamity? Bane of Sorrows? There are no weapons of the same type and damage type. Much less the same archetype or perk selection. For a guy who claims he hated the infusion cost of Forsaken because it choked the ability to create builds, you sure don’t seem to retain that same sentiment when it comes to weapons. Everyone has a favorite gun, and it’s bad enough that they have it taken away. But to not offer anything similar so they have to settle for whatever they end up with? The fact that you have no sympathy for people liking off-meta shows me you aren’t interested in loadout diversity at all. Forgive me for wanting a little variety in my gameplay. My mistake.

  • Why do any of those need replaced? None of their archetypes or perks were especially remarkable. Which is why I’ve always said that Destiny was a mile wide and an inch deep. The only thing that distinguishes on 120 rpm hand cannons from any other are its visuals...and it’s sound design. Go look at light.gg. You’ll be amazed at how many weapons are just reskins of the same basic weapons.

Because people like using them. And you’re entirely oversimplifying weapons by looking at them on paper instead of how they actually play in practice. Again I go back to my Better Devils. Better Devils is a 140 Kinetic Hand Cannon that has been in game since Vanilla. Then Austringer came out, and had superior perk roll options and better stats on paper. For all intents and purposes it is objectively BETTER. Yet I still like Better Devils. I still used Better Devils. Because of sentimental attachment, as well as a preference for the visual design and overall feel of the gun. Yet now, you and Bungie day I have to use Dire Promise or Old Fashioned. You say they’re the same thing. I say you’re wrong. That’s my main issue with sunsetting. But let’s put that one aside, and focus on those that ACTUALLY have no replacement. Warden’s Law was a 110 with an intrinsic Double Fire frame where it would register two damage numbers per shot. No other gun does that. There was a lot of room for cool perk options but Bungie dropped the ball. Bane of Sorrows? 360 RPM LMG, Outlaw Dragonfly curated roll. Miniature Thunderlord. Now sunset, and the only two options currently are both 900 RPM and neither are void or roll Dragonfly. Subtle Calamity? No other legendary void bow. Enough said. Militia’s Birthright? No other legendary kinetic Breachloader. Enough said. Thin Line? The ONLY 110 ENERGY Hand Cannon in the history of Destiny. No other to replace it. You say they’re all the same. You don’t know what variety of loadout means. Take a look at Doctor_Roidberg ‘s inventory and find out.

  • Why? If you want to keep using a weapon forever simply because it’s fun the loot games aren’t for you. This is where the issue of expectations that are not compatible with loot games start to become an issue. ...and why that promos Bungie made five years ago was doomed to fail.

  • And again we arrive at the fact that I started in Taken King, and all along have heard that we keep what we have. Even in the swap from D1 to D2, all my D1 gear still exists and can be used in any D1 content. But NOW Bungie is choosing to double back on the deal. So of course I’m pissed. And for players like me, 23 new weapons to try and replace the 200 options we lost is not a worthwhile trade off. That’s it. That’s the crux.

  • -blam!-ING ROFL DUDE 🤣 I’ve hardly ever seen someone grasp at straws this hard before, let alone contradict themselves so heavily... in the same thread no less! If you’re happy with BL right now, that’s perfectly fine. Go nuts. But if you’re so incapable of critically examining your own actions, let alone Bungie’s, to the point of saying shit like this? It’s best not to pretend like you can. You can be wrong and still enjoy enjoy something. No shame, really. So long as you can admit it.

I don’t have to grasp at straws. Did you really think Bungie was going to drop TWO YEARS worth of guns on you in a SINGLE DLC?? Because that’s what Bungie sunset. Every legendary weapon that was added to the game for the last two years. The only legendaries that dodge that fate were the GoS raid weapons. Anyone who thought that Bungie was going to drop a 1:1 replacement for the guns they sunset is the one who needs to be laughed at. BECAUSE THAT WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. We also know that Bungie isn’t going to remove new guns from the game at the end of the season. So what is being added now will be available until they are sunset next winter.... and each season Bungie will add more and more to the loot table. What they are giving us now doesn’t need to last a year. It needs to last the three months until the next SEASON. I don’t have to grasp at straws when I’ve taken the time to learn how these games work...and am patient enough to look at the big picture rather than just throw a tantrum at the first frustration that comes my way.
