20 RespostasIt’s this simple. The democrats don’t like him, they have control of the house. The house passed articles of impeachment. The republicans sorta like trump. The senate conducts the trial. The republicans hold the senate. The only bi-partisan thing about this was the Democrats who broke rank and voted against the articles in the house. The winner in this is Trump. Nothing galvanizes a base like being impeached for what his base sees as no reason. The loser in this is Justice Roberts. 57 RespostasBasically it’s a forgone conclusion that he will be acquitted. Republicans control the senate and there is no way they will vote to impeach him. They won’t even allow evidence and witnesses to appear. The Dems are doing this more as a political tactic rather than a serious attempt to impeach him. They are hoping that enough voters recognise what Trump did was unethical that they vote him out in the presidential election this year.

I see that Republicans are still conflating the whole Christopher Steele thing with what Trumps accused of. Its actually fascinating how people make the mental leap from a foreign-assisted investigation conducted away from the public eye to ensure it didnt impact the election, to accusations of trying to futz with elections via the help of foreign agencies/powers. Of all the "points" raised by either side thats probably one of the dumbest. Say what you want about the veracity of the document itself, but to compare it to what Trumps accused of shows either total galaxy brain "logic" or pretty high tier bad faith argument.

Though, given how Repubkican Senators as a whole pretty much confirmed that they were going to find him innocent no matter what Dems provide before the trial even started, Trump will be acquitted. If found guilty, he will be removed from office and Pence takes his place. Though, I don't get how Trump's defense team is saying that it will reverse the 2016 election when Pence will become president if Trump is removed. It's almost like his lawyers are there to look pretty, but don't actually know how to do their job. It doesn't take an expert to figure out how the transfer of power works at that level; it was taught in middle school-level American History.
