A huge topic that refuses to be addressed at all is the idea that maybe the shooter who just committed mass murder has just a small chance of a mental illness. Seriously guys, nobody wants to actually kill people unless they've inflicted harm on them. Even then, you shouldn't be wanting to kill anyone in the first place, because its stupid, you will get put in jail, and you just make it worse for everyone around you, including yourself. "ViDeO GaMeS CaUsE ViOlEnCe!!1!" I actually wrote a short persuasive speech explaining to my English teacher exactly why that is not the case. Through some research, I actually found multiple studies come out and say, "Theres no correlation between the two." Some studies showed it actually helped, since it was a way to get rid of any aggressive mindsets or whatever. Was there a small increase in aggression after playing? Yes, but aggression =/= violence. And sometimes, it may not be either od those things. When covering an example of a Florida Madden Tournament shooting, the article dove deep into the home life of the shooter. Basically: • the guy was addicted to computer games, like they cried in a corner when games were taken away from him. • the dad (or mom, cant remember) didnt give him some medicine for psychos because they believed "my child is not a psycho." • the guy was actually prescribed with multiple pills to take. Parents didnt allow him to take any. • pretty sure divorce was in there too The shooter wasn't raised well to handle discipline. He didnt take prescribed medicine because his parents didnt allow him. Sometimes its not even mental illness, sometimes its the environment we grow up in and how we are raised and cared for. TL;DR: there is a huge crisis not being explored in America for Reasons about mental health and how a child is raised. Parents have to understand the fact that its your child you are raising. If you did the do with consent, raising a child is part of the aftermath. Raise it well, get it to talk about its issues to you, and there's a good chance they won't become a mass shooter in the future.
