This is somewhat in response to the guy who said he was quitting because he couldn’t get the weapon.
There’s been a lot of arguments about pinnacle weapons since the introduction of LH/NF, namely because of their difficulty to acquire for lower skilled and/or solo players.
As it is right now, pinnacle weapons are awarded entirely based upon a person’s ability to perform in competitive pvp. That means that those that struggle in pvp or those that cannot find team are severely disadvantaged when trying to acquire these weapons. Many of these players have left pvp entirely as evidenced by the shrinking pvp population.
In a vacuum this sounds like a typical meritocracy which a lot of people may think is fine but this is a video game, not real life. There should be some form of meritocracy in which the best players are rewarded quickest but video games should reward time investment above all else.
My proposal (and I’m pretty sure ideas like this have already been recommended) would be to add a alternative to reaching 2100 glory in comp based on time invested in the comp playlist. Something along the lines of 100ish wins in competitive.
Assuming a 50% win ratio and that a comp
Game lasts ~ 10 minutes you’d play 200 10 minutes games giving 33.33 hours. Of course a 50% win ratio would get you to 2100 well before that so a person that has to meet the 100 win threshold likely has a win rate around or below 40. That means they’d likely dedicate 35+ hours to the comp playlist to get it
Hell they could just follow up with the Redrix broadsword idea (I’ve seen this recommended tons and it sounds like a great idea to me) and make the weapon available through grinding quick play the following season.
Either way, the best players would still be rewarded their pinnacle weapons first but those dedicated enough could still get them. Both skill and time investment would be rewarded and it’d probably help the pvp numbers a little bit.
Even then, a change like this would be coming too late and pvp still has loads of issues but at the very least it’d keep some people playing more.
Edit: I went overboard with the original win requirement. 100ish would be way more reasonable than 300
Edit 2: People are assuming I can’t get pinnacle weapons/suck at comp. check my titan.
Here’s my stats too for the “LMAO git gud”
Brigade: https://destinytracker.com/d2/profile/psn/VxIxCxIxOxUxS
My motivation for writing this post is solely because I believe that this (among other issues) is responsible for the dying pvp population
Edit 3: As an addendum, I’d like to add that Bungie should create a NF version of every pvp pinnacle weapon that’s slightly better to give the pvp gods their trophy. Credit to Ace616 for the suggestion
Edit 4: The main response I’m getting is something along the lines of “lmao participation trophy” and I don’t get this one. Earning a weapon for getting to the halfway point (I.E fabled) seems like it it promotes participation trophys. Why should you get a “pinnacle weapon” if you don’t even reach the pinnacle rank.
Shouldn’t you guys have an issue with this as well?

3 RespostasI came late to the comp party and now have to climb against all the guns I hope to obtain. We have a great prize for you, gives you a real advantage, and all you have to do is not lose against everyone else already using this advantage. Also, the casuals are gone and it's sweat city. My Lunas should be gold plated and smell like new sneakers compared to the players who climbed against a larger and diversely skilled player pool who did not have so many crutch cannons to deal with.

I agree and disagree. I disagree in that there should be certain weapons not all people can get (i.e. not forgotten) because it means something... This is where my complaints come in. Recoveries.. People paying tons of money to do it for them. When a gun is that hard to obtain, that’s what happens. As a result, many players who do suck at pvp but just spend their life-savings on a game have not forgotten. Its even suckier for us players trying to earn it legit when we’re versing them all the time

Personally, in regards to this Season, I only have a problem with the mountaintop quest. I should not be forced to grind Mayhem with a tether to realistically get that weapon.

22 RespostasDoes anyone feel like the service revolver seemed like a nice band-aid fix to the problem? I don’t have it but it looks pretty lethal to me with the right roll. No?

I’m pretty sure the only things people say about luna is “nerf!”

I think the sub ranks towards Fabled should be checkpoints that can’t go backwards. After Fabled then it should remain the same so that NF is still locked behind skill. However, I think Luna needs a stability nerf as it’s a bit too ‘spammable’ and all other handcannon archetypes should have their accuracy improved (bloom/recoil reduction) as well as making the guns more accessible.

5 RespostasHard to have a balanced game if the best weapons in the game are rewarded to the top players. That can't even be argued. Bungie has a major issue and its going to be tough to fix at this point. Will they continue this love fest with catering to he top few % and lose the player base or will they come to the middle and keep everyone?

Great point well made.

8 RespostasWe need to get out of this idea that everything should be obtained by everyone. In a loot driven game you need hard and easy stuff to chase and if that's requires some skill then fair enough. This handout mentality really gets on my tits, not everything should require zero effort of just play 20 games.

I agree with your overall point and i hope in the future it makes the pinnacle weapons not such a controversial point for the community, i do think there are some things to point out though. The first thing id say is id try to avoid the “its a game not real life” point because that just feels like an arbitrary excuse to say make the game easier because its not real life, we had a similar thing with the raids for years where people complained about the high barrier to entry as well as the time/skill/communication required to do them, in that instance should we make an alternative to getting the 1k voices for example because “normal” people wont do the raids? Also i think people have to be ok with not getting every gun unless you’re willing to put in the effort to get them, believe it or not i actually think alot more people than we think are capable of fabled in comp and they the only reason they dont go for it is fear of the playlist itself ( losing points etc ). I noticed the point about the redrix quest rework they did in forsaken and once again i agree, make a new 180 with mag-howl, make a quest like redrix for it with hand cannon steps instead of pulse rifle steps and boom problem solved, however what if in 2 months people start saying they dont like that either because it takes too long for example?

I think your idea is pretty good, but I think "Skilled" people hate to see others with Luna's or NF. So an idea to add for your idea: Make new weapon with consistent three-tap capability and 180 RPM. And you acquire the weapon by reaching 2100 in comp or win 100 times in comp.

5 RespostasIt’s ridiculous how many people are asking for that quest/game mode to be changed so they can get a hand out.

A person who has a perfect 50% win rate (win loss win loss win loss.....) wouldn't even be halfway to Fabled after 200 matches. The Glory calculator on the Crucible Playbook subreddit shows that you need well over 450 matches at that rate to reach Fabled. After 200, with 100 wins and no streaks, you wouldn't even have made it out of Brave.

3 RespostasEditado por Wayne712: 4/16/2019 2:05:48 PMcrucible has suffered tremendously with the introduction of pinnacle weapons. There are all sorts of shady shenanigans happening in comp with DDoSing and the population for Crucible in general has dropped dramatically. My question is why make PvE and Gambit pinnacles rewards for dedication, rather than skill, but the PvP ones about skill rather than dedication? If you give better players better weapons than everyone else, that’s not going to create a great environment for the casual and less skilled. the broadsword for me was the benchmark of how to do a crucible weapon quest. It required dedication to playing crucible more than anything else and is achievable by anyone of any skill level. Make pinnacle quests like this and you encourage participation and this is essential to the health of the game mode. You can make the path faster by playing comp and provide unique rewards that don’t impact so heavily on gameplay so the elite can show off their elite status. If you cater more to the top 10% and don’t incentivize the 90% then there’s something not right there
I has Luna and Recluse btw so not mad cuz bad
2 RespostasNah, i rather they remove lose penalty from comp meaning you lose no points when you're defeated or "Rank lock" you don't go back down to your previous rank when losing points but you lose points if you lose, i don't know why this is not implemented in the beginning cause Halo had the same shit.
-
Editado por ATinyBushWookie: 4/16/2019 4:02:43 PMThe only one I can think of for bad players who really want to slam their head against a wall until they get the gun is for rank locking. You reach a rank at x glory points? That rack is locked in and can’t drop below that rank. Yes it’ll still be a grind and be brutal if your bad. But if you keep trying you will have a better chance at getting it. No other pinnacle weapons can loose progress in attaining it. Only crucible ones.

1 ResponderI think you need to be more specific about pinnacle weapons. You’re talking about crucible pinnacle weapons, not all pinnacle weapons, because there are time invested weapons, such as Oxygen.
