As of August 2017, 27 countries fully recognize and perform same-sex marriages but 73 countries criminalize homosexuality.
Same sex marriage is recognized and open in the following countries:
Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland, Argentina, Denmark, Brazil, France, Uruguay, New Zealand, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland), Luxembourg, United States, Ireland, Colombia, Finland, Malta, Germany, and Australia
Same sex marriages in Mexico are performed in Mexico City and 13 states but it’s legally recognized in the country.
Israel and Armenia legally recognize same sex marriages but are performed outside the country.
South Africa is currently the only African nation to legally recognize and perform same sex marriages.
Austria will allow same sex marriages to begin in January 1, 2019.
However, same sex activity is punishable by death in the following countries:
Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria (male), Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen
I’m curious to see how most of us feel about this situation. We as society are becoming more progressive and tolerant of the LGBT community. I know everyone has different views so feel free to state yours.
