Eyasluna Dethroned?

Everyone knows that eyasluna was the hand cannon of all hand cannons in TTK. Its base stats alone bested almost every other TTK hand cannon, not to mention when you throw perks like rifled barrel, range finder, or even small bore into the mix. But with the release of Rise of Iron, bungie has added two hand cannons in particular that will aggressively challenge Luna's throne: -The Wail (FWC hand cannon) -The Palindrome (Crucible Hand Cannon) The reason these primaries steal some of Luna's spotlight is that their base stats beat Luna in nearly every category. Here are the stats to consider when comparing these three God's. [b][u]Base Stats:[/u][/b] [b]Range:[/b] both The Wail and Palindrome beat eyasluna's base range stat. Of the three, Palindrome has the highest with a base range of 39, while The Wail has 32 and Luna has 26. [b]Stability:[/b] The Wail gets the win here with a base stability of 37. Luna places second with 31, and Palindrome in 3rd with just 20. [b]Reload:[/b] Again The Wail wins with a base reload speed of 33. Luna and Palindrome are nearly tied with 26 and 25, Luna in second. [b]Equip Speed[/b]: Now this stat means much more to some than it does to others. Personally it means a lot to myself because it determines my ability to switch to my primary to finish killing those damned rushing shot gunners, after I stick em with a throwing knife (knife jugglers ftw). That said; Luna takes this category with a base equip speed of 55. Palindrome has 41 and The Wail has 39. [b]Aim Assist:[/b] The Wail takes the cake here with a base aim assist stat of 77. Palindrome is not far behind with a stat of 70. Luna comes in last with only 50. So [b]to summarize[/b], when it comes to just the base stats of these three guns, meaning the stats of each gun with no perks to modify them, The Wail wins in 3/5 of the most important categories while the other two each grab one slot. Now here is where the tables turn. The [b]MAX[/b] stats of each gun. Meaning the highest stats each weapon can achieve with modifying perks. I wont list them out like I did for the base stats because the results are extremely one sided. Luna wins 3/5 of the categories and ties in a 4th. It has the highest MAX Stability, Reload, and Equip speed and ties with Palindrome for the highest possible range. So on paper Luna still seems like the one to go for. But there are still some factors to consider. The biggest of these factors is perk rolls. Luna and Palindrome pull away from The Wail here simply because The Wail has very limited perk options. I imagine this is Bungies way for balancing out the fact that the Wail's base stats are so much higher than the other two. [b]The Wail Perk Notes:[/b] -Unable to roll rifled barrel or reinforced barrel which is a huge downside when compared to the other two due to how influential the range stat is on Hand Cannons. [b]Luna & Palindrome:[/b] -Nearly identical options for rolls. So basically all the "God Roll's" that people were looking for on their Eyasluna would be the same rolls to look for on a Palindrome. [u][b]Final Thoughts:[/b][/u] [b]The Wail[/b]. This gun would, imo, be a heavenly PVE weapon. This is because its base stats are so high that you can look for more experimental perks on it due to the fact that high range and stability are not as high of a priority in PVE encounters. [b]Best Rolls[/b]: The rolls you are going to want to look for on this gun (which will be based on PVE effectiveness) are combos such as Explosive rounds, Outlaw/TripleTap, Reactive Reload/Firefly. All in all this gun is a very suitable replacement for the monstrous fate bringer and/or a beast of a weapon for PVE encounters. [b]The Palindrome[/b]: This gun, between its base stats and max stats, has very high potential in both PVE and PVP. With its high base range, it will be easier to max out its range stat without using up a perk node that could be used for more playstyle dependent perks like lightweight, casket-mag, or even explosive rounds. It will also be able to reliably challenge Luna in most crucible encounters, IF you can manage the lower based stability. But its also a reliable weapon in PVE if it has similar rolls to what I suggested for The Wail, but maybe not quit as efficient or reliable as The Wail. [b]Eyasluna[/b]: Happy to report that in PVP this gun will continue to be an absolute BEAST. With all the available range boosting perks, a higher base stability than The Palindrome, and its higher reliability in unique encounters (such as rushing or running players) due to its supreme equip speed, this gun really has no exploitable weaknesses if you find a good roll. [b]Note:[/b] [i]All this info is based on the base and max stats found in the destiny database and not personal in-game experience. If anyone has personally used two or more of these guns and has a comment to make on their in-game performance that wasn't mentioned in this post then feel free to comment and I will consider adding reliable facts to this post.[/i]

    Stats don't make a good weapon. By default, Grasp should, in theory, be a terrible weapon. Yet it still 3-bursts.

  • I got a nice wail with hammer forged hidden hand and explosive rounds /QuickDraw , nice to use in pve , haven't really tried in pvp due to the rifled barrel reactive reload hot swap eyasluna that I can't get away from

        Good to know my Eyesluna with range finder, luck itc, Sureshot and small bore/hand loaded is still good.

        • Eyasluna was meh at best. A decently rolled imago or vanity blew it out of the water. Uffern is better than all of them. Best range and stability, with the same RoF.

          • The palindrome wins for one reason: recoil direction. Stability on hand cannons is mildly useful, but from using Judith D with reinforced barrel in crucible, I can say it helps less than you think.

            I never liked the Eyasluna. Recoil direction was too random for me. But the hit detection was 👌👌

                • A little off topic but do you guys know that eyasluna with rangefinder and hammerforged has the same amount of zoom compared to palindrome with rifled barrel and rangefinder?

                  • I've mained hand cannons since day 1 and I have also had both of these 2. Both got used for infusion. They are both not even close to my godly Eyasluna or my even godlier High Fixer. Hell Hawkmoon puts both these in the shade. Hawkmoons 3 magic bullets still makes that a go to HC . It's like having LITC 3 times on one HC .

                    • my first crucible rank up package gave me a Palindrome with outlaw, reinforced barrel/high caliber rounds, and rangefinder. haven't gotten to use it yet, but my hopes are high.

                    • My god roll for a hand cannon dropped yesterday on a Byronic Hero, really wish it's roll was on the Eyasluna or even the Peril. It's been working pretty well nonetheless (It's on my warlock if you want to see it)

                        • I have a good roll with Eyasluna and the vendor Palindrome and have yet to try the Palindrome out in crucible. From using it in PVE I can tell that it's effective range and easily controlled recoil feels great.

                        • I got the wail I'm not a handcannon guy, but I like it for pve so far. It has explosive rounds and range finder Only draw back is it only has 7 rounds.

                          • The recoil pattern on the palindrome is a lot easier to control compared to eyasluna. Check CoolGuy's vidro review.
