I've been wanting to make a poll on this for a while. I'm not too educated on what happened in the camps other than Japanese-American people being forced to live there in fear of them being spies. Honestly, after Pearl Harbor and the stress of World War 2, I could understand why it was necessary.

Don't forget that they also put away Germans.

10 RespostasWhat if they didn't do this and Japan won the war due to spies? Just because it's a bad thing doesn't make it unjustified. People like to go back and make America look bad for things it has done in the past but they forget that most of the world would be speaking German if it wasn't for the US.
-
2 RespostasI'm actually proud of offtopic for once

Depends on what the motive for it was? Was it because of the possibility of them being spies or other agents, or was it just purely an angry reaction to current events. Either way, its easy enough to judge in hindsight, but you should always take into account that you're most likely judging by modern standards, not the standards of the time.

1 ResponderFrom a military stand point it was justified but it still was bad
-
1 ResponderThey also rounded up German Americans, but you don't hear about that cause they were white.
It was beyond wrong to put anyone in "camps"
2 RespostasDemocrats taking human rights away. What a surprise.
come at me
2 RespostasThis song is relevant.

No, it's one of the three worst things our country has done.
-
2 RespostasThey had their reasons, but I don't believe many Japanese-Americans had much of a connection with the Japanese Empire.
-
3 RespostasI don't know much about the conditions they were in but considering all that was happening at the time I can probably say it was the right thing to do. If enough camps were being set up where they wouldn't have to move very far then thee isn't much of a problem. I that the Manhattan project was an important project that also needed to be keeper secret and doing that definitely reduced the risk.

3 RespostasSeeing it from the perspective of a army member Yes As a citizen that heard about the attack via radio/television etc. Yes

Yes!?!?!? ~TheGreatReebok

At the time when it happened it was a necessary evil.

9 RespostasI'm Korean, my family for generations have been rice farmers (go ahead laugh). The Japanese in the early 1900s basically enslaved my peoples and stole all our rice. Today, I actually have several Japanese friends and associates and my wife is half Japanese. But somewhere in the back of my head (like every good Korean) I remember. And so I answer this question as a definitely maybe it was justified.

16 RespostasHow they were treated when it happened no but the idea as long as there treated humanely then yes
-
According to Koramatsu v. US it was. Morally speaking there is a very high likelihood not. So what ever.
-
25 RespostasIt was ridiculous that we put the Japanese in the sane conditions that Hitler put the Jews in.
-
Justified? No. Sort of understandable, a little.
-
6 RespostasThe Supreme Court said that in times of war it's okay to sacrifice fifth amendment rights in favor of national security. .-. What a country we live in lol, it's almost like our rights only exist until they become inconvenient.
-
I don't really mind the fact they put them there, just the fact that they were treated so terribly.
-
Internment camps FTW

Some must suffer for the good of the realm.

1 ResponderI'm learning about this in history class today

4 RespostasCanada was brutal in this matter as well. In British Columbia, we seized 1200 Japanese fishing boats. And even more cars. We sold all of it for a fraction of its worth. Just so we didn't have to pay for the shanty towns we made them.
