Totally, I get you.
I was really f****d up in a motorcycle accident. I was paralyzed from it, but later on, I ended up with an infection. I went septic. My blood pressure went really low, so they had to put me on pressers.
That medicine caused my legs and hands to die. It looked exactly like I had frost-bite on my legs and hands.
Anyway, I ended up losing my legs, just above the knee (I couldn't use them anyway since I was already paralyzed, so whatever.), and most of my right hand. Somehow, my left hand escaped mostly unharmed, even though it looked as bad as the right one did at first. It's just kinda slow sometimes.
So now, I only have "nubs" for fingers on my right hand, and my thumb is contracted, which means I can only move it a tiny bit.
So... I can't shoot and move the "look" stick at the same time, because my fingers aren't long enough. So, I have a really hard time trying to "track and shoot" at the same time. But I've gotten pretty decent at shoot, then move my hand down so I can push the reticle over to line it up, shoot again, move the stick, shoot again. I also have a hard time hitting buttons, since whatever finger I do have left, is all permanently numb. Ha ha!
It sucks, but oh well. I still have fun most of the time.
People give me crap about my stats a lot, but I really don't give a crap. I actually feel accomplished that I can even get kills, because most people that know me, and I tell them that I play Xbox, usually look at me kinda funny, and ask, "How the heck do you play video games with your hand like that?"
I also never mention it when people blow me sh!t about my stats, because I don't like to "blame stuff" on it. Plus, I just... I don't know exactly what I'm wanting to say here, but... I don't want to give them the satisfaction of having some circumstance to "pity" me, like... "Oh, that's why you suck, because your hand is all f'd up.", if that makes sense.
Also because, I feel like, even though I do have a disability, I can still be as good as anyone else. It's just gonna take me longer to be able to get the muscle memory, and to figure out how to get my hand to cooperate with what I want it to do. I will get there. I may not ever be the best. But, I will be good, someday, and not "good, considering my disability". Lol!

Too many replies, this may have been mentioned. But the elite controller with the rear paddles could maybe help you get a handle on all the buttons at once. You could, or someone easily could modify the paddles on right to run around the paddle specifically where you need them. In fact if you need help I'm available to try to create the paddles for you. I have an elite I could model and test from. I wonder if there would be a market for people needing controllers modified to them specifically to make gaming more competitive for them. Rather than a struggle operating a goofy controller.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been checking out some of the different options that people have mentioned. When I decide what I'm gonna get, I'll let you know if I need some help.

Sounds good

You have nubs for fingers and you can type that much and play destiny? Dang....that my friend is worthy of a achievment. Good deal bro. If your on a xbox I would totally game it up with you no matter the game....MakerOfWind

I'm a swiper. I can swipe 70 words a minute. Lol!

How does a thumbprint work for you?
-
Edited by FrenetiCreature: 1/5/2017 4:36:54 PMI just use my left thumb. It isn't messed up. My right thumb is still mostly there, it was amputated right at the middle of the thumbnail. So I still have a little bit of a thumbprint left. My fingers are all cut down to below the first knuckle though, so they're just little nubs. The sucky part though, is I can only move my thumb a little bit. It's contracted, so I can only get it about an inch away from my palm. Like... with my good hand, I can spread my thumb out and make the shape of an "L", but when I try to spread my thumb out on my right hand, I can only make the shape of a "V".

Yeah I'd definitely go scuffs
-
You are insane at PvP if you can manage an even KD with one hand
-
Well, it's more like 1.5 hands. Lol! My right hand is mostly a palm with, most of the thumb still there, and little nubs, about an inch long, for fingers. But, someone told me in one the comments on here, that there's a guy that actually plays with only one hand. That is freaking insane!
-
That'll be me. Happy to share my way of handling controller with left hand only. Shoot me a message if you want to chat
-
I see, but managing to be in the top 47% of people for KD when most people have 2 full hands is great.

TBH don't say the ability slows you down it can bring you up faster than you can believe. I have a disability called spina bifida making my ability to walk not possible. However I'm in really good shape for my age and travel across the country in tournaments like the NJDC. I also have autism which is actually starting to be normal but for some reason it should make reading hard for me but I have had a 12th grade reading level since 5th grade.
-
That is great! I'm glad it's not holding you back. Maybe you're a savant. That would be kind of neat, being able to read and comprehend better than anyone else possibly could.
-
There's one person I know who matches my reading level

If u want to play with me pm me

Cool, thanks!

Edited by TheArtist: 1/3/2017 1:45:59 PMYou're lucky to be alive. Everything else after that is a bonus. You don't have anything to prove to anyone but yourself. Remember that.
-
Definitely! I've always been a pretty competitive person, so sometimes I can be pretty hard on myself, if I'm not performing the way that I want to; but for sure, anything I get to do after making it through my accident is a huge bonus!

Um...

😶No words. All I can say is....I feel so small now when I wince at my stomach pain. I'm glad you found the courage to share this. I myself had a stroke when I was 11 (now 22). I have my issues and try not to use them as excuses but it is hard sometimes. I think I have found my calling in life though. I'm trying to get into psychology and maybe help people in rehabs. It's also interesting to study people.

Well, don't ever minimize your struggle in comparison to someone else's. Just because their's might seem worse to you in your eyes, it doesn't mean that your's aren't valid. Struggle is struggle, whether it's a little or a lot, and it takes strength to overcome it.

I actually want to get in the nanotechnology field to see how I can help people with disabilities like me
-
Good for you. I believe things happen for a reason.
