Hunter only gained monk influences when Arcstrider came out. Gunslinger, Nighstalker, and Blade Dancer have no monk references. Secondly, I believe rogue is more of a mentality. There were plenty of Hunters that were more like front line soldiers and honorable scouts and explorers. Jaren Ward? Not a drop of rogue blood in him. Very noble and righteous.

back in d1 there was a lot that was similar with the monk class. most noticeable one was blink (in 5e you get something similar with way of the shadow).
-
What are those things that were similar because what I'm seeing is a mercenary/scout that uses guns and blades for stealth. A majority of Hunters in Destiny are actually scouts or snipers on the battlefield, and use ghillie netting, camo, and cloaking. Blink is not monk based or dnd inspired. Teleporting is not trademarked lol

well the baseline for the classes is 100% inspired by wow, which was inspired by dnd. I have more experience with dnd than wow which is why im using it as the example. assassin/rouge/monk would be hunters paladin/warrior/knight would be titans sorcerer/wizard/cleric would be warlocks (yes, i know warlocks are a class but they dont do the same thing) You have to understand that the heads of the game played a lot of wow (scarab lord luke smith), so they use it as a reference point for most of what the make. I could go on and on about the similarities between the two games. Now, thats not to say that destiny isnt unique. There really isnt a game out there like it. But at its most basic level each class is 100% referencing what came before it. Its not a case of.

Edited by Ferus Lux: 9/5/2020 2:16:45 AMNo. You're wrong about everything. Go watch the Destiny GDC 2013 Panel where they discussed their world building and inspirations. Skip to 43:16 for their design philosophies, archetype explanations and armor to cloth ratios. Titans: Future Soldier inspired by Master chief. Hunters: Sharpshooters inspired by Bounty Hunters and cowboys like Han Solo and Boba Fett. Warlock: Space Wizards. There is no DnD inspiration here. Titans are not Paladins that is the silliest thing I've read on here in a while. Definitely do yourself a favor and watch the full GDC 2013 Panel. I've followed Destiny since then and anyone else who has knows the lore of each class and knows there is no DND inspiration here and Hunters are not Monks or Rogues.

there are quite a lot of interviews that explicitly state inspiration from wow, coming from both devs and salt dad himself. Now yes, wow isnt dnd, but i already stated that i have more experience with dnd than wow which is why i drew the comparisons from that, but even then, its the same style of gameplay in wow. I would be surprised if nothing in the game had that influence in mechanics and overall game design.

Those post interviewes dont really hold any weight and destiny has had many different creative directors. Those are lone wolf opinions and not the general outlook on the shaping and world building of Destiny. That GDC was the culmination of a lot of concept planning and drawing board discussion. If you watch the GDC you will also hear them shoot down general MMO and RPG comparisons and inspirations during the class and cosmetic customization discussion, reassuring that Destiny is a sci-fi shared world shooter looking for it's own identity.
-
that was destiny back then. destiny now is not like how it was then because those "lone wolfs" gained more control and are shaping the game how they want it.
-
...Okay but going back to the original discussion, Hunters themselves are not inspired by rogues or monks. They are a mix of Bounty Hunters, cowboys, and scouts. That's all I'm saying.
-
I mean they aint but you do you
-
I mean they are and you can't accept you're wrong despite first hand info from an elaborate briefing for no reason other than you love DnD/WoW and everything is made in their image 🤣🤢🤮 Have a good one, Nico.

Edited by NicoNekomancer: 9/5/2020 4:47:57 AMnever played wow and barely played dnd but it dosent take much more than a basic understanding of it to put two and two together. sure is a shame the game isnt a mmo or anything. totally didnt take design concepts directly from wow. I mean its not like the director put too much time into wow to the point where he has openly admitted to basing the game off of it. not like its the same case with this dlc or anything.
