Making Y1 gear unobtainable after Y1 gives a purpose for reskins though. You may not be able to obtain NITC in Y2, but you can get Treads Upon Stars, which is just a NITC reskin. The side effect of this? they don't need to nerf Y1 perks in order to make Y2 perks competitive. Y1 perks can remain the same and they can still be obtained on your favorite archetypes of guns. People will just know that when NITC kills you in crucibabies, its a Y1 gun vs a Y2 gun. This allows the integrity of Y1 gear to be preserved and remain special for Y1 players while not giving them an all out advantage over Y2 who will be able to obtain similar guns, but reskins with different names.
