End game matchmaking In the current random form would be a disaster. The activities that benefit from it already have it.
Do you honestly want to shoot at Atheon, try to tackle Skolas, and run sword in Crota with a group of randoms, most of whom don't even talk? Trials?
Built in lfg may be useful, and better clan tools would be useful, but optional random matchmaking would not.

Lfg is the same as random matchmaking. I know none of those people and i also don't know if they're any good. But even with lfg i have never had any issues. I've also completed many raids and POE's with people that don't have mics and it wasn't an issue. I think people just like to act like its so terrible to have matchmaking when its really not a problem. Every game nowadays has matchmaking so i'm sorry but i'll never understand why a social game does everything to avoid being social.

It's all the more insane when you think about Bungie's reputation. What are they known for innovating? Cutting-edge MATCHMAKING!

Edited by pacificdune: 8/7/2015 4:47:43 AMBuilt in lfg would be a good thing, but there is a big difference between that and random matchmaking. Need to be able to kick players. Need to establish requirements. (Mic, level, loadouts, experience, etc...) Need to ensure some commitment to the task. Lfg is not perfect, but all of these details are easily ironed out in the party chat before starting the game. Why waste time duplicating this functionality when it is already there?! I don't mind acting as raid Sherpa or helping people, and do this regularly, but the tools to establish this already exist in lfg. What is really needed are better clan making tools, which are rudimentary at best.
Built in lfg would be a good thing, but there is a big difference between that and random matchmaking.
There is?!
Need to be able to kick players.
We already can.
Need to establish requirements. (Mic, level, loadouts, experience, etc...)
Could be done with matchmaking, just as well.
Need to ensure some commitment to the task.
That's never going to be guaranteed with LFG or matchmaking.
Lfg is not perfect, but all of these details are easily ironed out in the party chat before starting the game.
... or in the matchmaking preferences settings.
Why waste time duplicating this functionality when it is already there?!
Already WHERE?! On external LFG sites? By that logic, why waste time making Destiny when there's already Halo and WoW?
I don't mind acting as raid Sherpa or helping people, and do this regularly, but the tools to establish this already exist in lfg.
Not in Destiny, they don't. These tools should be INTERNAL.
What is really needed are better clan making tools, which are rudimentary at best.
Yes, better clan making tools (and improved clan functionality) would be an excellent complement to matchmaking/in-game LFG. Put them all in and we'll begin to have something resembling the shared social experience we were sold. Of course, it might also be nice if, when we went to the "social space", we were actually able to socialize, but that's another story.

You can't kick someone that is afk in a random matchmaking strike. What you are really asking for is not random matchmaking. It is hosted matchmaking. There is a big difference.
-
I'm not asking for "random" matchmaking; I'm asking for matchmaking.
-
Right now it is random, which is all they have... Until they develop a decent built in lfg it's offline tools or don't play. I'm not sure how well Microsoft and Sony let games use their chat party functions and the destiny game chat sucks. This could cause problems since everyone is in party chat. Since we have a round about way that works well enough I think they should prioritize things we need more like vault space.
Since we have a round about way that works well enough I think they should prioritize things we need more like vault space.
They really ought to be able to deliver both.
End game matchmaking In the current random form would be a disaster.
I have a solution for players who share your opinion: don't use it.
-
No... Providing it as an option would just lead to frustration and people not playing the game. Instead it forces you to find a clan to play with. You are right. I would not use it. Nobody would, which is why it is not there.
Providing it as an option would just lead to frustration and people not playing the game.
That's funny because they don't provide it and I experience a lot of frustration and not playing the game. You see, it isn't OPTIONS that make people not play the game, it's A LACK OF OPTIONS. I've tried some PvP modes I didn't like. Instead of getting frustrated and not playing the game, you know what I did? I stopped using those PvP modes and spent my time in activities I enjoy, instead. That is, activities I enjoy which DIDN'T suffer from absent matchmaking.
Instead it forces you to find a clan to play with.
... which doesn't necessarily help because even large clans may not match up well with your schedule.
I would not use it. Nobody would, which is why it is not there.
I would use it.

Edited by pacificdune: 8/8/2015 7:52:22 AMYou write with an air of confidence as if you were an expert at the game, but you have yet to complete a raid on hard mode or level 35 PoE. I have killed skolas 33 times and completed well over 100 hard mode raids. I have the guardian lord trophy which includes flawless raider, multiple flawless trials passages, and have earned every exotic in the game. I frequently help people with all of the raids and PoE. Shit, if you were to ask I would probably even help you... Before I raided regularly i had the same frustrations that you did, then, as I joined a clan and then later founded my own I discovered why it is not there. All that matchmaking crap became completely unnecessary. You have 2 choices... Cry and pretend that Bungie will listen to you... Dissecting anyone who disagrees... Or take the advice of those like myself who have much more game experience than you do and use what is available. Have you even tried lfg? Have you tried to join a clan? Stop being so lazy... Go do those things and then complain if you still need to.
You write with an air of confidence as if you were an expert at the game, but you have yet to complete a raid on hard mode or level 35 PoE.
I'm an "expert" at wasting time trying to form groups with external LFG sites. And that makes me expert enough on the aspects of the game I'm commenting upon.
Have you even tried lfg? Have you tried to join a clan? Stop being so lazy... Go do those things and then complain if you still need to.
I've spent hours on LFG sites and I've been a member of one of the larger clans from day one. Better tools need to be available IN THE GAME. And, FYI, one can have a different experience than yours and, as a result, different opinions about what the game needs, without having been "lazy" to get there, so please put the strawman insults away and be civil.

Ok... Whatever.
-
That's a load of -blam!-ing garbage. Has matchmaking stopped weeklies? Crucible? Strikes? Nope. It shouldn't take hours to use a third party website to maybe get a -blam!-ing raid done. It should be in the -blam!-ing game. Desticles who keep repeating this tired mantra have obviously never played Halo.

Edited by pacificdune: 8/8/2015 7:47:45 AMAs I stated previously, the activities that need random matchmaking already have it. When I use lfg I usually have a raid group within 5 minutes.

Congrats to you for finding random people in 5 minutes off a 3rd party website. NEWSFLASH: your experience isn't universal.
