In most of those examples, and indeed with Bungie, you are forgetting that you (and possibly they) are bound by LEGAL contracts. I know everyone just clicks 'Accept' when the EULA comes up, but if they actually read it, they would see that complaining on forums has no legal precedent. They don't owe us anything. You are playing a game, you do not own the game, you have no say in how the game is developed, patched, maintained. etc. They can stop supporting, developing, or even allowing us to play it at any time! The problem is that people visiting these forums think they do have a say. Bungie is being nice by listening to the community. (yes I know from a PR and marketing standpoint it helps them, but they are not bound to do anything).

As an attorney I do feel that my understanding of contract law and legal precedent is quite sufficient. But I am not sure where that came from. I don't recall ever saying what anyone posts on the forums has any legal effect on Bungie. If you, as a consumer, choose to give excuses to professionals that you have paid because their job is difficult, then that is your prerogative. I for one am in support of the community making their voice of dissatisfaction heard. Side note that your pseudo legal argument is incorrect.

my point was that we are not paying professionals to do their job. we paid for a license to play a game. That is it. I'm not saying people shouldn't post to the forums, or give feedback, etc. I think they should post, but they need to realize they aren't "owed" anything, they weren't "Promised" anything, which we hear all the time.

Whenever you purchased the game you did in fact pay for more than a mere license to play it. Bungie could not just decide to shut down their Destiny servers tomorrow without having some legal recourse. And as a consumer you do have certain rights associated with the purchase that the service is not broken and works sufficiently. While people have no right to dictate the process or details behind the scenes at Bungie they do have a right to demand that a clearly broken portion of the service being provided be fixed. The moment you start providing excuses for a seller of a product or service about their inefficiency then you lose the capitalistic advantages that come with the buyer-seller relationship. By giving into the misconception that you need Bungie more than Bungie needs you then you provide an outlet for them to continue to leave broken services broken. As someone who works hard for their money, as I am sure that you do, I demand that the services I put my time and money into work at a level that I deem sufficient. While we were not necessarily "promised" anything (i.e. more vault space) we damn sure have a right to insist on it if the current system is broken. Anyone who thinks that the PR aspect of Destiny is solely for the benefit of players is clearly misguided. It is a forum that Bungie uses as a marketing and community creating tool to further continuity, and thus continued use and investment, into their product. It is as much for them as it is for us. So I will continue to demand the service that I deem sufficient and will not fall ill to the "their job is hard" argument as an adequate excuse for not providing. And I hope you will do the same.

Damn straight. As an electrician and a Lead Hand responsible for managing a crew and turning over product, I'd get fired if my best excuse for not meeting a deadline was "my job is hard." When you get paid to do something it doesn't matter how hard it is. You're expected to get it done.

Amen. Thank you and all the other professionals who understand what it is like in the real world. We do not (and people should not) allow excuses about difficulty on a job being the reason it was not completed properly. And to the young professionals or soon to be professionals please do not allow this to be an excuse for you or allow it to be an excuse for anyone you pay to do a job. If we make a mistake, you can bet damn sure that our clients are not going to tell us that they bet it was hard and it's okay. If we do a bad job the lowest repercussion we expect is to lose the client or customer. This is not just in reference to Destiny or Bungie, but please do not allow anyone you invest into to use (or worse you provide) the excuse about a job being difficult. If they cannot perform the tasks, no matter the difficulty, then they should not take your money to perform them. We are better than that. You are better than that. We are all better than that. Set the bar higher so that we as a people demand higher. The world is better than this. Continue to improve it. For the world, for the human race! Do your part and I will continue to do mine. Get out there Guardian and we can continue to build, expand and reach new heights!
