If you don't buy expansions you can't access subclasses, nightfalls, dungeons, raids, access the kiosk, exotics, pinnacle & powerful sources, weekly challenges etc They've made is so if you want to hit endgame you need to buy everything. It's not about preference it's about having access to the game.

I said if you want to get anywhere or achieve anything. & Not have flashing icons & popups telling you to buy things. There's currently zero pinnacles in-game obtainable by free players, no current nightfalls are free. Sure you can play for free & pick up bits of loot but what's the point with no progression & 95% of the game locked away.
