I don’t want diversity. I want a year 1 Vision. A year one Black Hammer. And the Ghorn. That will do me for another 3 years. Thanks.

 • I don't want those weapons but I do want the way those weapons made me feel.

 • I want all that, but most of all, I want the Y1 core gameplay, where it was harder to level up and you were actually given a worthwhile reward for doing the games hardest content - i.e., the best loot came from the game's hardest content. That has not been true since TTK launched. I want them to stop compromising what they can do in PVE because of some PVP crybabies. I want them to do what NEEDS to be done and finally separate the competitive PVP from the rest of the game so that people who are tired of getting outgunned by godrolled weapons have other options to play. And I want them to open the floodgates in terms of optional matchmaking, in-game LFG and recruiting so that they can finally stop being so afraid of putting good loot where casuals might not be able to get it. At least that way, they start breaking down the barriers to endgame content in the only ways Bungie can actually manage, and fight LFG elitism in the ONLY way Bungie can. They were closer than what they thought to having the formula right in Y1. They just needed to sit down, take a breath, and think things through before they started to react. RNG issues were largely resolved by TDB, where RNG seemed to be MUCH more friendly than it was in Vanilla - but not TOO friendly - a la TTK+/D2.

 • But they reacted to what the community asked for. People who liked D1 for what it was were not the entire community. There were hundreds of nerf posts for every one against and people bumped the shit out of them and didn't support the pro-Y1 posts enough. Look at part 3. Why don't they have thousands of upvotes like posts wanting THAT game back? Why aren't all the usual suspects names in any of the comments fighting for THAT game? And you know exactly whom I'm referring too. They claim they want a better game, but where were they? The fact is that not enough people supported posts like these. Plain and simple. But then they get on their horses and scream, why don't you represent us? You're a sellout! You're a shill! No. I -blam!-ing tried. It didn't get enough support and the game got broken and needed to reboot. But i kept playing with my friends and so -blam!- me? No -blam!- them. D2 is a new game. Let's make it better and build forward instead of backwards.

 •
D2 is a new game. Let's make it better and build forward instead of backwards.
You and I have our differences, but at the end of the day, I can agree with that statement 100%. Where we differ is what needs to be done before we can get there. IMO, D2's issues can all be traced back to just TWO problems that reared their ugly heads back in D1. That is the unified sandbox, and the lack of matchmaking options. Nearly EVERY SINGLE bad decision about D2 can be traced back to the decision to keep the sandbox unified and to NOT simply implement optional matchmaking. Without accepting/admitting that these are the CORE issues that need to be their top priority for resolving, you can't even get to addressing other players' complaints without putting parts of the community at odds with others - which is, btw, part of the reason why this forum is so toxic. It's ALL about us vs. them . PVE vs. PVP players. Hardcore vs. Casuals. Wolfpacks vs. Solo players. No matter what they do from here on out, unless they fix these two issues, they can't even begin to start doing some of the things that will make this game fun again, like bringing back some ridiculously powerful and OP weapons in PVE, putting some TRULY GREAT, meaningful rewards in the hardest endgame content to make them worthwhile, giving us subclasses that are TRULY unique, play drastically different from the others, and offer different strengths and weaknesses. Doing so would just cause balance issues in PVP or it'd cause people to complain about being unable to access the game's best loot/content, and it would just be a repeat of the games same problems over and over and over again. What is funny, in regards to THESE TWO particular issues, most of the community supports these two ideas, and yet, Bungie continues to ignore them. And until they actually address them in common sense ways, this game is going to continue going nowhere fast, and its fan base will continue to dwindle. Because no matter where you stand on the current state of the game, its hard NOT to see that the magic from the game is gone. Until someone with decision making authority comes out and announces that they're reversing current coarse on these two issues, everything that they do will simply be a bandaid to make the game palatable. But it won't be solving core issues. It's like treating the symptoms of the disease, rather than the disease itself. And IMO, they're running out of time to actually do it. Because I'd imagine nothing short of a reboot would allow them to fix these two core issues. And a game that has rebooted every other year doesn't necessarily inspire a whole lot of confidence that the men and women behind the wheel have a clue as to what they are doing.

 •
They were closer than what they thought to having the formula right in Y1.
Nail on head. Hitting lvl 30 was an achievement in year one. Hitting 305 is just an inconsequential grind. Not particularly hard. I stopped playing around TTK. Played that DLC for a week then stopped. Didn’t even play the raid. Came back just before Age of Triumph and I was gobsmacked and how much of a charity the loot system become. Getting all the Rise gear in a couple runs - although nice to have - didn’t give you much to grind for. And it was easy to get all the adept guns in a couple of play throughs. By all accounts Y3 Destiny was almost close to perfection (yes it could always be better). Mix in a bit of year one grind, extract a ton of nerfing. You’ve got yourself a game. This insipid game doesn’t make me want to play. I’ve not played the game in a week. Year 1 destiny kept me coming back day after day. Even if just for half an hour to shoot some stuff on patrol. People say “oh there are other games you can go play”. Yes, yes there is, but the whole point of this franchise is they want to make this a game you want to play. They are failing that big time. Surely it’s a positive people WANT to play the game? I bought Battlefield One, played the campaign. Played multiplayer for a few weeks and put it down. I’m fine with that game. Go back and play every now and again. Destiny is the only game I’ve ever bought DLC for. I don’t grudge a penny in Destiny. I want to play this game for years. I just can’t in its current state. I sorely wish I hadn’t bought the Edition that came with the DLC.

 • I'd be fine with a year 1 thorn found verdict and corrective measure all year 1 versions

 • That’s the thing with D2 (and D1 post TTK). Bungie (namely Luke Smith) has this weird philosophy of having as many viable weapons as possible, which meant in their terms, having nothing really stand out. At least with D1 Vanilla to HoW, you could at least find YOUR signature weapon.

 • I get that too. I thought about that after I finished writing it. There was a reason for loving specific guns so much, but where does that put all the demands for more loot?

If there were a ton of great (not good) guns, wouldn’t the game be WAY more fun? Make guns blow enemies up. Make guns have explosive rounds. Make guns reload quicker on headshots. Make guns spawn orbs. Make white nail a thing. Make rockets track enemies. MAKE GUNS GREAT AGAIN!

 • They do all that still. There are great weapons still. It's not the weapons making us less powerful. It's everything else.

 • The thing is, there will always, always be a meta. Pve and pvp will always have their own meta. If every gun in the game had awesome perks, stats, and ttk there will still be a meta. Even if it is just a teeny tin bit better than the rest... meta. Right now, believe it or not for pve and pvp there are a lot of good guns that aren't meta and they have no problem working well against the meta. This goes for pve and pvp. There is maybe 3 guns that you may consider great pvp weapons but even they have their limitations that put you at a disadvantage.
