Except hosting event instances and handling more business logic to reduce strain on the p2p connections. But if you count those as almost nothing, then I guess you're right.

Ultimately depends, the cloud servers that handled that had a hard time in destiny 1 with a very poor tickrate. So moving more work to them, depending on how much they "invested in the infrastructure" might not be an improvement at all.

They made it sound like they are just now implementing cloud servers to help hold data. They easily could have upped the tick rate. Honestly they should have given that type of info as well

Well cloud servers were already involved in destiny 1 as far as I understand, they're just taking more work in destiny 2.

Yes and no. They do have a dedicated server that will be taking up host responsibilities along with what it normally took up in D1. And then they have the cloud servers which they hope to store some other data.

I don't think you understand how it worked in the first place. They're giving use vague soundbites like "they've invested in the infrastructure" and basically moved a bit more work to the cloud based servers whilst players are still using a peer to peer connection to each other. You'll see very little difference.

No, they go into much more detail than that, not going to spout a bunch of shit here that you can read in the update.

So, you're telling me my summary is wrong, but unable to point out where my summary is inaccurate. That sounds like a reasonable argument. I guess I can look forward to the posts about how smooth and amazing the connections are. I'm sure the move away from 6v6 games has nothing to do with connection issues.

Ok then. That other guy seems overly salty about something. To clarify, D2 servers will act like the Host of games. Meaning far less info has to be sent P2P. As it should be stated, this should theoretically help the lag issues. It's not a fix. Just a buffer I suppose

Using the terms from this talk, in Destiny 2, both the Mission Host and Physics Host will run in our data centers." The link to that presentation is on the update. If you want to be ignorant and not read that, and not understand the differences that those changes make, thats your fault. D1 only ran mission host on their data centers. There is also a reason why, conceptually this *COULD* be better then dedicated servers. By leaving individual players in control of their characters, they dont have to wait for their movements to travel to a server and then back to see that happen on screen, everything about controlling your individual player happens on screen, immediately, regardless of your location relative to the datacenter. The same cannot be said for games with dedicated servers. Learn to Fing read.
