Bungie is not going full peer to peer in destiny 2, but a hybrid of peer to peer and client-server.
Thanks for clearing that up Bungie!

1 ReplyJust like d1's mm always favored connections first. Greetings to juan and zimbabwe's national d1 squad that ive regularly faced in pvp.
-
Nothing has changed. They used it in D1. They may have fine tuned it, but that is the same tech they have been using.

26 RepliesGames like Overwatch, Star Wars Battlefield, CoD, all have much bigger pvp teams. Some use dedicated servers AND are 60 fps on consoles. Be a delusional fanboy all you want, but people will simply choose the less laggy, visually smoother games over destiny 2. Especially as new games come out in 2018 and 2019. It took bungie 3 years to get to destiny 2. Do you really think destiny 2, which is essentially destiny 1, in terms of no dedicated servers, only 30fps, is really going to be able to compete with new games running 60 fps, dedicated servers, and up to 15v15 pvp in 2018, 2019, 2020? Yeah, no. Bungie is setting themselves up for failure. A sequel is supposed to be an improvement over the previous iteration. With destiny 2, we're getting less pvp, and more of the same fundamental game design. More of an expansion really. That's why there's so many of us being critical and holding Bungie accountable. We love what the game could be and want to ensure it is around for years, with a healthy playerbase. Bungie demonstrated repeatedly with destiny 1 that they're their own worst enemy, inflicting their own wounds and alienating customers. That same pattern is being repeated and will lead to similar results.

1 ReplyUm, the old system was a hybrid too. The server did the match making and then we were all transferred to the person with the least stable connection to play. BTW, as Bungie said, they considered it but didn't feel it was worth the investment. Translation: These idiots will spend $100 trying to get a green sparrow or a flaming blue skull. Sure, they will bitch and moan, but they're still going to give us their money anyways!!
-
10 RepliesIf this hybrid is better than the current system, why did they downgrade pvp from 6v6 to 4v4? You're telling me net code is improved, yet pvp is downgraded. Yeah... that makes sense. The truth is staring you in the face folks. 4v4.

Still better

2 RepliesEdited by Ahhsenberg: 5/26/2017 9:51:16 PMIt's still a version of tech that is outdated and used for budget reasons. CoD has been doing this for years(since Ghosts) because it's cheaper and easier. Honestly, "cloud servers" is what they're trying to show us to prove it's something newer and all about us, but it's not. If they cared about their community they would give us straight up dedicated servers - it's the farthest thing from an unreasonable demand in 2017. Even games involved with EA of all things(Battlefield) gets around being a cheap ass by charging for servers. Destiny could probably make up for the costs with microtransactions alone... not including all of the expansions. But no. Bungievision is about profits and taking the low road over anything else. With Destiny 1 people excused this because of last gen holding things back. Now what? Is it suddenly okay because your lord and savoir gave you an offhand excuse? Seriously? Even on PC with no dedicated servers? I can't believe anyone would be defending this. I know, I know. "Shut up you entitled whiner! You know nothing and are just a toxic person! You should be thanking Bungie for doing everything for us! You can't do anything better! Video games are for fun and not to be taken seriously!" It really is unfortunate that the sheep mentality is the overwhelming majority in today's world.

Seems like the new system they have been working on could be a good solution. Interesting stuff and looking forward to how it works out.
-
1 ReplyIt will be tremendous! Everyone will love it! It will be the best gaming experience ever!
-
13 RepliesHybrid....."just like Destiny 1". Read carefully, you will see it's still the same!
-
1 ReplyI got my money back from Microsoft on my copy. We've all spent the last 3 years in red-bar hell, so why go through that again? If Bungie is too cheap to use dedicated servers for gameplay after making $1B, then I'm too cheap to buy their games.

2 RepliesEdited by Kilo: 5/26/2017 11:50:55 PMI wish they would do developer videos like Blizz does for Overwatch. They did one explaining how their net code works and it was very interesting. Jeff Kaplan is the Game Director, not community manager, of Overwatch and he posts on the forums quite frequently and does developer videos over popular community topics on occasion. He is basically the Overwatch equivalent of DeeJ (as in being the face of the developer) but he is actually the game director so he is not only very in touch with the community but responds to topics on the forums with helpful information. Despite Overwatch being insanely popular (30 million players) and being made by Blizzard (one of the biggest developers around), the game feels like it's made by a small developer of a small community with how transparent they've been. I love Bungie but they certainly aren't the same company as they were 10 years ago in the Halo days. They seem much more "corporate" now, for the lack of a better word. The return of the Bungie podcast is awesome, especially if they go into detail on how things work and talk about the latest topics in the community. Hopefully they keep the podcast going.

Edited by Hun8ryGhost: 5/28/2017 2:08:06 AMIt's P2P. The "hybrid" nonsense, is corporate mealy mouth ass-smoke.
-
3 RepliesBased on what they said, Crucible will still lag and you will still encounter plenty of red bar warriors. Half-assed dedicated Servers =/= dedicated Servers
-
Seems to me they just coated the turd in gold and rebranded it as a whole new turd. I guarantee D2 will run into the same BS connection issues as D1... It's 2017, sorry but if your triple A title doesn't have dedicated servers then it shouldn't be a triple A title.
-
14 RepliesThe only thing it did is calm people down who know nothing about technology. It was purely double speak. Removing stat processing from the host player is not going to stop the BS caused by bad connections, DDOS'ers and lag switchers. If it is so good, why did crucible matches get reduced to 4x4?

This Community looks for anything to pounce upon. Any statement or lack thereof. Bungie does not comment on Server type: they didn't comment, nothing has changed! Bungie reveals a hybrid Server type: they didn't use true Dedicated Servers, it will be crap. Bungie reveals a pure Dedicated Server type: SOB's took so long to do it, they are incompetent! Bungie reveals no servers, and UPS packet delivery, verified by retina scan and DNA screening: UPS guys/gals mugged by Red-Bar-Heroes! Basically, Bungie can do nothing right (critics) or wrong (fans)! Bungie takes a poop: your sh-t stinks, no one else's does! Can't please...
It is humor, take it seriously and you DO NEED HELP!
Don't waste your breath. You know opinion trumps fact in America.

Isn't that what cod has been using since BO 3 so the jury's still out on this one
-
1 ReplyQuestion. Does anyone think that Bungie has solved this problem? Raise your hand! I mean, they've been trying for 3 years to fix it in D1, if they could have, they would have.
-
1 ReplyIs this going to be similar to the For Honor way of doing multiplayer? They have a hybrid mix of P2P and servers or something like that.
-
6 RepliesI have been bitching about dedicated servers, but this does change my opinion. Bungie's communication about this has been awful, and I point that out because they are responsible for the resulting reaction to their lack of timely information. So anyway it appears that they have invested in net new improvements, which probably would have been welcome news at the reveal. If cloud servers improve the game then great. Whatever works. Still an "if" though. They don't come across as super confident here, but they are also developing a unique system. I just hope it works.

8 RepliesEdited by meatballsublime: 5/26/2017 4:06:54 PMThe way that the D2 peer-to-peer is described will most likely still result in people teleporting around the map and probably keep the status quo of god-mode red-bars. But... only time will tell. Either way, it IS good to see that fewer elements are dependent on peer-to-peer. That information WAS a pleasant surprise. Any hope at fixing laggy raid/strike bosses is a plus. Some things should just never happen in the first place. Laggy bosses is one of those things.
-
3 RepliesI see a big difference playing on average internet vs stupid fast internet. Hopefully the addition of a few more servers will lessen the need for ten gabillobyte internet speeds!
-
5 RepliesThe beta will be for testing lag for me personally , then decide if I will purchase .
-
7 RepliesYes what they basically said was we are running the same system, you will have the same results. We did modify some aspects so less information is peer to peer and although you will still see lag, ddos, and red bar warriors we "hope" it will be less. Thanks for clearing up we still get P2P connections.
