You have to equip a subclass that matches the daily singe in order for those kills to register.

I've just tried that myself. And currently it's Solar Singe and I was in Dawnblade. Made multiple kills with kinetic, elemental, and power weapons. Not one single kill registering on my Majestic Helm progress.
