This post has come up before, it didn't make any sense then, and it still doesn't make any sense now.
How would you explain away a kinetic-slot fusion rifle without completely altering the in-game function? In what way would it make sense from an in-universe explanation?
-rant about 'gauss' weapons not applying or working- Edit: Now that I've thought about it more, this could work. What a 180.
Can a weapon in the kinetic slot exist that has the same mechanical function as a fusion rifle, and be a believable item? Sure. It can be a weapon that charges up some magnetic accelerators and launches a volley of tungsten rods down a gun barrel. No elemental energy, and shares the "charge-up, burst-volley" mechanical function of a fusion rifle. However it is no longer a 'fusion rifle' going by how the fusion rifles in Destiny are characterised and established. It would be easier to call this new weapon by a different title, than to try and justify them being a 'fusion rifle'.
That is what I think a lot of people commenting are attempting to describe. The weapon in theory can totally exist and be believable, just not under the moniker "fusion rifle" because that title carries specific expectations and descriptions that just don't combine with a weapon class specifically intended to not make use of any energy bolts or so on.

Modificato da TotalDramaGamer: 1/1/2019 5:50:30 AMKinetic blasts. A 'force gun' sort of fusion rifle. Using kinetic energy, which can consist of things like shockwaves and concussive blasts. And before we get too far into 'realism'... please realise that a hand held fusion reactor is insane and unrealistic in every sense of the word...

So basically Tractor Cannon? Realism doesn't have to pertain to actual real-world understandings of physics or linguistics and so on, realism or something being 'realistic' can also pertain to the specific established workings within a piece of fiction, such as Destiny.

A shockwave (pressure wave) compressed into a 'bolt', and then released. I truly want to understand what this means but I'm afraid it will open a wormhole into a dimension of radical departures from logical concepts that are reasonable to follow along with.
