I'm sorry but you're really daft. It's not really a lack of cultural understanding.
Unless you actually live in Portugal, it is accurate. Brazil is the only "State" in South America that speaks Portuguese as it's main language.

I'm from America, and I speak and write in Queen's English, thus I'd be fine with my language being gauged with a British Flag. I referred to Brazil as a "State" because it's part of South America, but the only part of it that speaks Portuguese.

Outside of a federation like the USA or Australia, you talk about [b]countries[/b], although the USA and Australia are countries themselves.
