Honestly never thought B1's story was much to gawk about. You go off to help a stranger get his wife back then you seek revenge for him. What's most annoying is that your character never speaks for no good reason. If they added dialogue from him like with Booker in Infinite, it would've added some character to your lifeless floating arms
up until the huge plot twist the story was very by the numbers
But the immersion and the characters, atmosphere and lore are what makes the game amazing
I found B2's story to be more solid. Putting you in the mind of a big daddie so you can witness the bond they have to their little sisters was something you could sink your teeth into. Especially with those alternate endings.

I hate to be this guy. But as many have stated. 2 has a weaker story. And it's just not as well done. You said the bare minimum of story for 1. Infinite was essentially rescue the princess. But there are so many things going on. The entirety of BioShock is a social commentary and player control in games. What it'd be like to have a world ruled by science. And how people would abuse their newfound freedom without dealing with the ideas of morality. And the atmosphere was much better in the first. The 2nd game I love. But it didn't capture all this. The audio diaries in 1 expanded the story so much and those who truly listened could find out things going on outside the main story or even find clues hinting at the twist and who your silent protagonist is. It also deals with heavy topics like altuism. Essentially it's like The Godfather for video games. People who don't think hard about anything won't see what's great. But it's so well written and near perfectly made. Infinite is a lot like Inception. Very interesting. It doesn't have as many undertones and social commentary. But a lot of spectacle and cool theories. 2 is like an awesome summer blockbuster. A little deeper than generic ones. And every aspect is well done. But won't go down in history as something everyone and their mothers should play.
