IMO the changes that Bungie has made to snipers so far (increasing the zoom on some scopes, reducing ammo capacity) are just small band-aids - they aren't addressing the actual problem. You shouldn't be able to start getting shot by a scout rifle in the head while you are de-scoped, scope (with a quick-scope perk no doubt), drag to head and pull the trigger all in the time it takes to get 3-4 scout rifle shots off. You shouldn't be able to scope with a sniper at all while sliding or in the air. Snipers should be used as long range weapons to pick off unsuspecting guardians, or guardians who are unequipped to fight you at their effective distance. Not as instant-win snapshot tools (regardless of skill level or distance) in any given firefight. Players are rightly immensely frustrated when they get the drop on somebody, take off 50% of their enemy's health, then instantly die to a single headshot because scoping is too fast, AA is too high, and there is essentially zero real flinch penalty to being shot. I'd like to see much more substantial flinch for snipers while being shot, to the point where it is almost utterly impossible to hit anything if you are being (say) consistently hit by an auto rifle at close range, or consistently in the head by a scout rifle at a scout's effective range. Scoping should also take longer and quick scoping perks should be removed - quick scoping has no place in a game where snipers are not power weapons, but rather weapons that everybody starts every match with and is supplied with plentiful ammo.

  • So your goal is to nerf aggressive snipers? The most skilled of snipers play aggressively and are rewarded for their skill. Sliding corners and quickscoping takes a lot of practice and skill. But your goal is to turn them into campy snipers who chill in the back of pantheon the whole match. We do not need to encourage campy snipers, there are enough of these low skill players. Please think about the actual impact your ideas would have in the game. Snipers and shotguns dominate currently because primaries kill too slowly. Up the kill time, problem solved. Honestly, it's not that hard to avoid getting sniped. Stop challenging where they are aiming. Take a creative angle and pulse down. Don't poke at head level through chokepoints.

  • So you're saying don't come around corners at head level because there might be a sniper camping there after you just said sliding around a corner and quick scoping. You just contradicted yourself and there is no skill in quick sniping. You have to practice long hours to exploit the fact the game is made like a game. I don't care how amazing the technology of Destiny is, you will never be able to throw a rifle up to your head, pull the trigger and drop it back down in a blink of an eye and land a headshot. It's no different than last year and final round sniper one body shot kills. The reason they do it is for an unfair advantage, one-shot kills and because they're assholes. It's in your basic personality and you can try and make lame excuses, like it's all about skill, to seem justified but you're just more of an asshole. A sniper is patient, invisible and has good sight lines and position. They're not close-quarters one-shot elongated hand cannons. Like you said, if they're camping, use alternate routes and strategies other than continually running headlong at them straight in their sight line. Quick scoping is not skill, it is exploration. You can be skilled at exploiting but when you rely on exploration to succeed, you're a cheat, not skilled. Skill is about natural talent and practice, not gaining an unfair advantage against someone not looking to exploit as you do.

  • To clarify your first sentence. No you should not be running through chokepoints at head level. Any good player knows this. Go watch some True Vanguard videos, he's great. I was saying sliding around corners and quickscoping is hard and takes practice to do consistently. If you nerf then in the way that you're suggesting this won't be possible. You're effectively lowering the skill ceiling (slowing the pace of the game down) for no reason... except skilled players are killing you in this way occasionally.

  • So what takes skill then? Snipers are not the problem. High ttk on primaries exacerbate the reliance on secondary weapons. IMO (and we are all entitled to them) if you nerf snipers tp descope or have drastically long equip/ads speed you are attacking the heart of destiny. Why have all these great movement abilities when you can't use them to their potential? All these nerfs have encouraged more hardscoping. Is that really what you want destiny to turn into? Because that's not the game I bought in 2014. Did anyone complain about snipers in year 1 when Messenger/thorn/hawkmoon killed as quick (and reliably) as they did? No, because primaries punished bad playstyles. If you want to go play halo then go. But please try to recognize what makes destiny so great as a shooter. The high skill ceiling on snipers is one of those.

  • Snipers are not hard to deal with bro. When I have a shotgun equipped I almost never get sniped. Use cover, don't approach head on. Snipers aren't the problem, your playstyle is.

  • Wow...Well said...I said this a million times but sadly I've given up...insanity...doing the same thing over n over an expecting a different result...but I guess I'll repeat it one more time...bungie just doesn't get it... they nerfed primary weapons damage, range(damage fall off), accuracy, ammo, and perks which has led to snipers being op...u can't kill a sniper w a primary weapon anymore (year 1 obviously u could)... snipers have more time to line up headshot, double body shot, or body shot (most of the time it's from 1000 yard type-167 damage)...n finish u off w one bullet of primary... the damage fall off is huge on top of damage being nerfed hard...even if u max ur range n if u don't max ur range...rip... this pretty much gives camping snipers a huge advantage cause they have no threat... u prob like just flank them...um there is radar and a sniper has to do is switch to primary (last word is a flanking killer)...common sense that snipers need tweaking when 99 percent of trials teams all 3 have a sniper equipped... 1. Add more flinch to snipers when they are ads...duh 2. Reduce body shot damage...duh 3. Extend handling times...duh 4. Don't listen to cry baby snipers that need there crutch weapon and fix snipers! The pace of play is so slow since the primary weapons nerf...it pretty much turned into a campfest over night...u all remember 1000 yard after update hit...players quickly caught on n just started hanging back and one hitting everything... Snipers are the only ones that can't be killed w a primary weapon...the ttk is way too long now since nerfs...n yea damage fall off...shotguns got nerfed over n over n over...fusions too...but the snipers just got 1 super mini adjustment lol...it doesn't take a genius to figure out snipers got it made n make game so campy n boring... Go watch some year 1 vids n u will see fast paced aggressive gameplay... Go watch year 2 vids and all u see are sniper last word hardscoping camping gameplay...

  • What you don't realize, all your suggestions would encourage more camping snipers. With those nerfs, that would literally be the only way to use them. Which is extremely boring, and they generally are not helping their team. Snipers are fine where they are at. Primaries are not. Buff primaries and it will solve at lot of the camping we see. Even with the current meta, it's still ideal to push the enemy as a team, not camp yourself.

  • Depends what you mean by 'staggered' - when it comes to snipers, being shot doesn't affect your movement at all - it just makes your aiming reticule jump around a bit. Are you asking if being shot while having a shotgun equipped should slow down your movement, or make your reticule jump around a bit? I can't see the latter having any effect on the use of shotguns in the crucible as it's very hard to miss if you're in the effective range.

  • U sir are awesome...most snipers would cry...so many streamers main snipe n they would cry all the way to the moon if the devs made more flinch to snipers while ads...it's common sense tho...

  • agreed on the lack of flinch. pisses me off when i'm tagging some one with a heavy scout with HC rounds and get insta head shotted. i don't think HC rounds even do anything, even tho it should be a factor most of the time it seems like a just an annoying mosquito buzzing around

  • Yep, agreed. People abuse the nature of things and complain when it has to be changed. Mostly because without the exploited advantage, they might have to... GULP!!! .... Have a fair fight!! Oh no!!! 🙃 I think it's pretty pathetic that you have to farm endless hours for your "God Roll" weapon to give you enough advantage to beat other players who obviously don't spend countless hours trying to gain the slightest advantage. Instead some of us just play the game and what happens, happens. Love this game, but it's still just a game.
