Why bother when the hung jury can do everything a hand cannon can and more (range, more bullets)

It absolutely can. And why would you ever be at close range? I mean, unless you're farming low level strikes or patrols or something, in which case equip a shotgun and sword and melt everything. There's really no reason to use a hand cannon anymore. There used to be with how powerful hand cannons were and Fatebringer, which would absolutely melt packs of Acolytes and Thrall, but that's not so much the case anymore. You want range on pretty much all Taken enemies, in the raid, and 260 Vanguard heroic enemies will kill you pretty fast.
