Strange Coins are not "scarce ass". I blew up mine for 3oC last week and now I'm back to 100s Strange Coins. They're dropping like candy.

You get 5 coins for each fraction you level up too

I play around the same amount as you. Leveling up factions give 5 coins, blue engrams turn into coins often enough. Then again it's maybe just RNG being a bitch.

I play around 2 hours / day (on good days) and I went from 0 to 79 coins this week. Bounties and rep. Now that you don't even have to go to the tower/reef to turn in the bounties coins and motes are practically free.

Right, I forgot about bounties. Turning them in gives engrams and coins every other time.

Yep. Things like patrol, bounties and faction rep are all so much more rewarding in TTK. (IMO)
