Vegetables are generally the best foods. And, I don't mean, like, health-wise, I mean taste-wise, and furthermore, that most veggies are best plain. I would take a good plate of veggies over almost any other food you could offer me.

I don't know that I'd call this a hot take, maybe lukewarm. Vegetables are fantastic but there are some foods that simply can't be topped, not even by each other. Those have their own pantheon.

I don't know, the opinion on veggies that I tend to see is that they're either nasty at worst, and "need to be cooked right" at best. I'm not even arguing for that second point; veggies are just the best, even if they're uncooked. There isn't a single thing I'd put in this hypothetical "can't be topped" list you speak of, though. Like, I wouldn't even put my favorite foods in that category. That just sounds kind of silly to me.

My mom and stepfather would have a Christmas party almost every year when I was growing up and there would always be a platter of raw vegetables with dip (typically ranch but sometimes there were alternatives) and I would nearly hover over it to ensure I got my fill; I was like an inmate guarding my food tray, lol. As for the pantheon, I suggest we respectfully agree to disagree.

I think you're the exception here, not the rule, but who knows. Especially kids seem to despise veggies. Maybe I just don't know the right people, though. Which is weird, 'cause I'm vegan, so you'd think I'd know other people who like veggies.

You're not the only person to tell me that, I've met many people that've told me they hated vegetables as a kid. Although, it was often caused by a sort of traumatic incident (and I use the phrase loosely) like the whole "no dessert until you finish your vegetables" kind of deal, leading them to believe vegetables were meant as some sort of punishment. Psychological scarring, I guess.

It's more prevalent among kids, but it's a big attitude among adults I've seen, too. Vegetables always seem to be really low on people's lists of "things I want to eat", and from my experience when someone [i]does[/i] like vegetables, they're usually given this stigma of being some sort of health-freak. Plus, like, there's the whole "fake meat" thing, hoping to help people eat more veggies by making them not taste like veggies anymore. While I can see the logic behind the childhood trauma reasoning, I'm not sure I'm fully onboard with that idea. Like, if the child liked the vegetables in the first place, they wouldn't need to be told they need to eat their veggies first before dessert.

I can eat veggies in most any form. Most veggied are indeed best steamed, but I also like them uncooked most of the time, too.
