I love Melee-centric classes. Definitely Way of the Warrior. I also love active ability regen mechanics. Pairing Gambler’s dodge with that skill tree makes for a very fun play style, but now with masterwork weapons in the fold I feel like killing enemies with anything but a masterwork weapon is unproductive. I think the class needs an exotic like the Crown of Tempest. That would allow melees and grenades to regen your super and grenades, which I think would make for a very fun play style. Or they could add orb generation to abilities as a perk for masterwork armor. Exotics need the same love imo. I love the new exotic Crimson, but I have the same problem using it as Way of the Warrior melees. No orb generation. The best work-around I found is using it with Way of the Sharpshooter, making precision hits recharge your super(even though masterworks benefit from the perk too, I end up feel more productive because of it). It’s a fun subclass combo. Plus throwing knives are badass. Thanks for the topic, and sorry for ranting lol. Edit: Also I miss using a knife for melees on Arcstrider, even though I understand it with the monk motif.

  • Definitely my favorite subclass and skill tree in the game. I loved Way of the Warrior as soon as D2 released. It's a perfect synergy of skills in a melee build. I think perhaps even more important than an Exotic for grenade and Super recharge is something that allows Arcstrider to stack damage for pve. Combination Blow is fantastic but it gets a little scrappy when you run into majors. I would like something that allowed us to stack damage up to x3 by prioritizing targets or using an overkill bonus to stack damage on the next target. I typically run Raiden Flux on my Arcstrider for superior Super duration but the Gemini Jester is a real contender for utility purposes. Combining Disorienting Blow effects into Way of the Warrior synergy is an amazing combination. I've also recently started taking Aeon Swift seriously just as a means of fireteam support. Although you really need a coordinated fireteam to get the most out of it but with constant Dodge, it would really benefit your team. As much as I love Way of the Warrior, I always use Way of the Wind for Crucible and Prestige content. It is arguably the better of the two but not nearly as fun. Thanks for the response.

Both of those exotics are great, super-long super-damaging supers or dozens of stunned enemies wandering around while you punch them all. When I saw Aeon Swift’s perk, I immediately thought about dodge melee weaving. So much potential! It’s kinda cheesy, but I like to use Lucky Raspberry until I’m ready to use the super on a boss and switch to Raiden Flux for the rest of the fight. It’s an easy switch since they’re both chest armor. I like the exotic ideas you brought up. Like Winter’s Guile or Synthocepts. Both are very fun to use. It does bug me a bit that Warlocks can use those gauntlets to do crazy melee damage on any subclass(devour all the way though) while Way of the Warrior’s Combination Blow buff seems lackluster in comparison. I’m all for more options to make melees more viable. The reward should be worth the risk of getting up close and personal, especially in higher-level content. Oh, and I’ve just started trying out a zero Recovery Way of the Wind build with 3 arc grenade mods with Lucky Raspberry, though Skip Grenades and Shiniobu’s Vow would probably be just as good. It’s hard for me to get used to the idea of wanting my health to be low, but the build is fun and has a lot of potential.

I've got that same three grenade mod set up with Way of the Wind and Lucky Raspberry (the class armor received the extra after CoO release). I'll do the same with equipping Raiden Flux before a boss fight and run grenade "spam" setup with Lucky Raspberry. I think Gemini Jester is an indirect defensive buff but I wouldn't have minded some sort of Exotic with a straight forward overshield.

  • That’d be interesting. Maybe charged melee kills grant an overshield? If it was on dodge it might be a little OP for PvP. But charged melee kill overshields would kinda be “overkill” with health regen on Way of the Warrior, maybe not for high-end content though. That would be fun. I’d love to see more consume X ability for an effect. Especially for classes other than Voidwalker. Maybe a consume melee to grant an overshield to you and nearby teammates. Or consume melee or grenade to charge super. I think it’d be pretty cool to chain melee kills and dodges, consuming charges melees for super energy, and getting charged melee kills when you need the health or to refresh Combination Blow’s buff.
