After wading through most of these comments I see a real disconnect in what people think a grind is and what people want and think.
Obviously you could play many hours of many days and still get new shit like shaders, ships, etc. so yes there is stuff to be had by playing.
But the reason for grinding and the reason people went back to the same activities in D1 was because there was always a possibility of an improvement of some kind.
The very purpose of grinding is to yield a reward or an improvement and it's just not there in D2.
D2 says ok here is all the cool toys, early on, now go do the content over and over with the same shit.
D1 said ok here is SOME of the cool toys, the BEST toys are difficult to earn, and after that you can find BETTER VERSIONS of all of these toys (perk rolls) by doing the content. That's having a reward for grinding content.

I mean don't get me wrong at least you have a decent argument for what the purpose of grinding is to you. I would like to point out though that for example before fatebringer came back people literally grinded the imago loop 100s of times to try get that fatebringer roll and what is the end result even if you get it you have played the content so much are you really going to get more enjoyment out of it playing it another 100 times with a slightly better more fun gun? Crucible.... Grinding for that God roll lunar toy get one! After 100s of games you get 1! Next game does your kd go from 1.0 to 3.0?no because you got sticky grenades and supers thrown at you every 30 seconds...... Do you get my point? I don't disagree with your assessment but in reality did it really improve the game?

You're overthinking it, or you simply do not understand. Getting the Imago Loop or the perfect roll on the Imago Loop was the reason to play the content. Not only are there no strike specific guns like Imago Loop to grind for, there are no rolls to shoot for. The improvement to the game was having things to try to get, not how good they made the game after you got them.

I get it but that wasn't satisfactory for me. It was painful. I do agree though that things like strike specific loot are a missed feature. There is plenty I want to be brought into D2 just random roles isn't one of them. I would be much happier if the loot was not so candy like. We shouldn't have all but 1 or 2 exotics 1 month in. We shouldn't have the majority of the weapons at all. But if things like ships and shaders and emotes were more part of the loot pool and armour and guns were a much more rarer drop. I would prefer that than getting my 70th imago with guerilla fighter on it.

I agree with you and every person that has commented before me... Exactly what I have been thinking since they announced "static rolls on all weapons".

What a great summary. This is exactly the problem with D2.

Finally, a decent analogy!

Well said. Every point was thought out and backed with passion . As a D1 noob who got Sherpa’d thru almost every Nightfall and Raid I have had a lot of fun with my crossover friends who themselves are D2 noobs. I’ve had fun using my basic knowledge to help them and better myself as a player pvp or whatever. You are a super accomplished Destiny player and a regular guy, I feel you. I guess my advice if you’ll accept it is : become the Sherpa of all Sherpas! Help out us casuals with the Trials or something. There will always be a gamer out there that can use a hand. Peace.

You can only Sherpa so much... I get frustrated to easy anymore.
