NieR: Automata: Game of the Yorha edition is $40 if you haven't played it yet. The DLC honestly isn't worth the higher price, so if you can find the vanilla game physically you might save some money. I also might suggest the Shantae series. I'm not sure about the quality since I haven't played it very much, but they are all around $15. Might be worth a look?

 • NieR is something I’ve been slightly interested in, but while I’m sure it’s a great game I don’t think it’s my type of game. I’ve been somewhat interested in Shantae, just because it seems to be regarded as a good platformer, but it seems kinda weird.

 • Shantae is weird. I can't think of any other game that lets you belly dance to transform into animals. I don't know how I forgot to mention it, but Salt and Sanctuary is cheap (~$20?) too. It's Dark Souls in 2D, but it builds on the formula in a great way. It's one of my favorites. Unravel and Unravel 2 are also on sale for $5 each on the PSstore right now. I don't know much about them, other than the fact they are 2D platformers, but I've heard a lot of praise. Probably worth five whole dollars, at least. Also also also, the Jak and Daxter trilogy is available on the PSstore for $30 if you're into that. Kind of a ridiculous price for PS2 games, but eh.

 • Games designed around humor can be really hit or miss. What are the jokes like in Shantae? I have the first Unravel. Love the idea, but didn’t like the game. Ah! I completely forgot about Salt & Sanctuary! I’ve been wanting that! What’s Jak & Daxter like?

 • I've only played Shantae: Half Genie Hero for about an hour. I don't think humor is the focus, but I can think of a few good jokes. A lot of the dialogue reads like a rushed translation, though, which is odd because it's made by an American company. I actually haven't played Jak and Daxter until today... I was hoping you've heard of it. It's one of the more popular PS2 mascot platformers. If you like janky old platformers, you'll enjoy it. It's really something you're either broadly into or... you aren't. I find them charming as heck.
but for real though if you get just one of these games you should get Salt and Sanctuary, it's absolutely amazing. It's definitely on par with it's inspiration.
• Really? It looked like a pretty goofy game. Nope. Back then I was 100% Nintendo.
It’s definitely up for consideration. If it’s only $20, I could buy Ralph Breaks the Internet, too!
