It's not the matchmaking. It's handicapping and catch-up mechanics. It happens to everyone. Download DestinyKD and go look at the players on your team and the other team. I guarantee they're all right around your Skill Rating. I can also guarantee that in some of the matches where you're at the top, sometimes there are better players below you. It's not all "worse players" than you being put on your team. I can also guarantee that sometimes when you're at the bottom of the scoreboard, there are "worse players" above you. That's just how it works. Handicapping and catch-up mechanics are supposed to give everyone a chance to be at the top of the team every once in a while, and to also end up at the bottom sometimes. It's supposed to make matches feel more dynamic. Just be glad it was your turn to be at the top, while everyone else was getting slayed.

  • It is matchmaking. It’s garbage. I was noticing a lot of L’s yesterday so I dove into the data on my last 23 matches from yesterday. I had 6 W & 17 L. In short match making basically chooses the winners before the match starts. 100% of the time the team with an avg ELO >10% of opponent avg ELO won. This happened 10 out of 23 matches (44% of the time) 86% of the matches were won by the team with the higher avg ELO. 83% of matches were won by the team who had the better of the lowest ELO player on each team. 70% of matches were won by the team who had the player with the highest ELO between both teams. 17% of matches ended in mercy 44% of matches ended in mercy or a point difference > 50 (basically uncalled mercies)

  • ELO is not a great indicator of skill. Last season, I stayed between 1400 -1700 ELO for both Iron Banners. This season, I've stayed at around 800. A much better indicator of skill is your "Skill Rating". You can find it in your profile on DestinyKD.

    It may not be an indicator of skill - never said it was - but def appears to be an indicator of who is going to win. My data shows this. Match making is a joke. It feels terrible to play IB. Lag, no xp for completing matches bugs, -blam!- show match making…

  • You may be able to make an educated guess on which team will win based off of ELO, but it's not telling you how you stack up skill-wise against each individual player. Skill Rating is what will be able to tell you if the players matched with you are better players or not. You can match with a team full of players that are all slightly better than you (with higher skill ratings), while they all may have a lower ELO, because they've been getting the short end of the stick more recently. But at the end of the day, your opponents and teammates are all going to be within about +/- 10 or 20 skill points of you, which isn't that much. You're being matched with all similarly skilled players. If you don't believe me, go look for yourself.

    It’s not that I don’t believe you it’s just that if everyone is matched at like skill points then matches would be more even. I don’t experience that. The data I gathered on ELO supports what I experience but overall I know a 23 match sample size is small. I’m still holding firm that match making is total -blam!- regardless of the cause and it’s making for an unpleasant experience. I’m totally ok to lose every match as i am not good at PVP but when it’s constant blowouts, lag, getting added to matches down 90-33, not getting xp for completed matches and getting wrong xp for completed matches it’s a -blam!- problem.

  • Yeah I just checked, last 48 hours 25 wins 25 losses 1.01 kd 1 game I do well, everything feels crisp, no lag, next game I'm Vs 6 hunters bobbing upm& down as they shoot, abilities nonstop, lag for day, can't even kill people when I hit them with my super. My hunter just got put in 4 games in a row where we'd nearly lost already, we're missing 1-2 players, or the best 6 guys were on the other team It's very manipulated

  • That what killed gambit. When bungie admitted they had catch up mechanics in gambit.
