Io is not a planet, and it is inside the solar system. It's a moon of Saturn.

I wouldn't mind seeing a time in the Destiny franchise where we finally make our way to Proxima Centauri. Like our solar system becomes so war torn from the constant battling that it's no longer habitable and we have to totally move our civilization to an area of the universe that has yet to be touched by enemy forces.

Nessus might be what you were thinking of. I dont think it is an actual place. So as far as the lore goes, maybe it's located outside our solar system. Considering our ships have the ability for light speed, its not too far fetched to think we could travel outside the solar system.
