Considering I'm religious, I'm not one for abolishing religion altogether. But I do think that teaching old religious concepts such as Creationism should be prohibited. We need to pull ourselves out of the Dark Ages and recognize that science knows what it's doing. Religion and old-earth scientific concepts can coexist.

Why stop at creationism. So far every religious argument I've explored can be counted with sound reasoning. We agree on the earth being older than from 4004BCE onwards because its based on empirical evidence. Why can logical inference be used to ignore other religious arguments? Why prohibit one type of teaching because its flawed by empirical evidence but not prohibit other religious arguments that are logically invalid.

Seriously, read this. You will love me forever.

That was incredibly vague, and very likely applicable to various other circumstances.
-
What? Did you even look at the links? A website extends beyond its homepage you know.

Editado por Winy: 4/27/2013 12:33:24 AMI responded specifically to the quote found on the page, which I assumed you intended me to read. I'm looking around and not finding anything spectacularly interesting. What exactly do you want me to get out of this site?
-
No, I intended you to read it in its entirety if you so desire. It basically holds everything that I believe on this matter. I probably should have been more specific on that.
-
Well, the entirety of the site is just "Evolution happened, here is the evidence verifying so." It's not like that isn't a statement I don't already wholeheartedly agree with, I just adhere to the side absent of any sort of theistic guidance.
-
That's totally fine too. I wasn't really pointing that website towards you, mainly towards Dangersly Awkwrd because he stated that he was religious yet still accepted evolution as the truth. That website was written by a Christian evolutionist, so I found it fitting to recommend that website to him.
-
Not really.
-
The only way to create things is in steps and evolution is a step by step process that has been put there by God to make all creatures and adapt them to their environments. (my opinion)

I am also religious, and sadly I know other Catholics who believe in creationism. They believe all scientific evidence is a test God is giving us to see if we are faithful. To which I always reply "So....in other words God is deceitful?". They always stutter and become flustered after that. If anything, science shows how amazing God is because it shows the complexity and beauty in every aspect of the universe he created.

Editado por Winy: 4/27/2013 5:24:25 PM
So....in other words God is deceitful?
You're arguing against that idea? Considering his supposedly attributed characteristics are inherently contradictory, the idea that he exists at all is deceit to humans, who are fundamentally based on logical reasoning when it comes to understanding ideas.
-
I am going to assume you are referring to the holy trinity. God's nature, 3 separate beings in 1 entity is not a deception, it is just impossible for us to fully comprehend.
the idea that he exists at all is deceit to humans, who are fundamentally based on logical reasoning when it comes to understanding ideas.
Could you elaborate?

Editado por Winy: 4/27/2013 7:40:52 PMThat's not what I'm referencing at all. Omniscience and omnipotence are contradictory notions, a being cannot exhibit them simultaneously.
