I've seen numerous people say religion needs to be abolished, and this got me to wonder, how would you go about abolishing religion? By making it illegal? By killing anybody who practices religion? If you make it illegal, people are still going to practice it because they honestly believe their religion is the path to salvation. And if you persecute religious people, they will be made martyrs and inspire more people to rise up against the religious persecution. (Take a look at Christianity, Christ's death became an inspiration for them all.)
So.....how would you go about abolishing religion?
EDIT: I'm surprised it's been 5 minutes without a response. I guess this is harder to answer than I'd thought it'd be.

2 RespuestasPoint out obvious flaws, contradictions, etc, that are threaded throughout religious texts and beliefs, and then go against them with science. I'd do this publicly, as well.

Two Words: Proper Education. I'm looking at you, Bible Belt.

You can't. It always comes back

Funny because my pastor was saying how much people would come see the faith if religion was illegal.

Start a nuclear war

I'd start a new religion and glass the human race to prevent any future wars.

5 RespuestasEditado por RIP delta: 4/27/2013 4:17:40 PMTake children away from religious parents at birth, then just don't tell them about it. When they're older and have been taught the ways of science, they'll be all like "dafuq these religious people talking about?". In a single generation religion would be almost dead According to the UN that would technically be genocide though....

14 RespuestasConsidering I'm religious, I'm not one for abolishing religion altogether. But I do think that teaching old religious concepts such as Creationism should be prohibited. We need to pull ourselves out of the Dark Ages and recognize that science knows what it's doing. Religion and old-earth scientific concepts can coexist.

4 RespuestasEditado por Enlightened One: 4/26/2013 11:30:52 PM-Convert Churches into something else -Forbid the product, transportation and sale of any new Bibles -Forbid any and all Church like activities in public view -Forbid media outlets to discuss or share anything religious related -Forbid all religious commercials. Promote scientific commercials for the common folks -Forbid any children that are 11 and younger from practicing religious rituals. If they are discovered.. parents will receive a fine of up to $5,000 (This is so a 12 year old can make a logical decision if he feels religion is right for him or not) -Increase scientific research and study on things such as The Big Bang Theory and Evolution or other scientific ideas that would help to disprove religion. -Execute anyone who commits a crime in the name of their religion. -Allow assistant suicide to those who no longer wish to live. -Allow abortion in most cases -Legalize Marijuana -Allow same sex marriage Most of this will help slowly kill off religion.

1 RespuestaEditado por Cultmeister: 4/27/2013 12:39:49 AMi wouldn't abolish it; just put heavy restrictions on it. -there should be a complete separation between religion and the state. the state shall not endorse (privately or publicly) any religion nor promote any religion or system of knowledge above any other. -whilst it is impossible to remove a religion's influence on legislation (as a person's religion will motivate their beliefs) politicians should be forbidden from openly advocating the religion that they believe in above any other when on the public stage. in fact mentioning religion at all when talking about policies that don't affect or lend themselves to religion should be taboo. -no religion should openly (or otherwise) endorse any political party and vice versa, no matter how similar the views of the organisations are. -no religion should openly promote hatred or prejudice towards any person(s) living on the Earth including, but not limited to, members of another religious organisation. -all schools will be set up with the intention and outcome of giving balanced teaching between all major faiths in the country (to be decided by the state) as well as the major faiths in schools' surrounding areas, if different (to be decided locally). -there should be a clear distinction in the classroom between the teaching of faith and the teaching of science and they should not overlap so much as to to infer any bias towards either system of knowledge. -no religious organisation nor person or organisation of any kind may set up their own school with the intent or outcome of teaching children with a bias towards their religious teachings over other religions' teachings, nor the teachings of other schools or systems of knowledge or vice versa. that's a start at least.

Simple: I'd nuke us all. Religion gone.
-
I wouldn't.

I don't think you can abolish any belief system...

As a man of religion, I think it's awful to want it abolished. Instead, I would want to eliminate the more unsavory facets of religion (intolerance, violence, corruption, etc.) through education. I would encourage curiosity, compassion, and understanding when it comes to religion and spirituality.

2 RespuestasImpossible in the U.S. because that would be going against the constitution.
-
How about by promoting critical thinking and education to remove superstition? That's a good start.
-
Burn every church, mosque, temple and holy site to the ground. Then execute everyone who complains about it. Then create a secret police whose sole job it is to find underground churches.
-
Editado por Winy: 4/26/2013 11:18:23 PMOrganized religion will fade out of existence given enough time, so abolition would not only be ethically incorrect, it would be unnecessary.

Kill everyone who does something really stupid or immature like ask for urgent medical advice on Bungie.net.

Saying that religion should be abolished is the exact same thing as saying that people should not have the freedom of speech. If anything pisses me off, it's definitely that. Religion will never be abolished, and to say that it should is despicable.

You can't kill an idea. However frustratingly naive it may come across as.

3 RespuestasI would: 1. Tax all religious organizations like churches etc. 2. Do a census and then register all those that are not atheist, then proceed to tax them 3. Have schools teach about major religions from an early age, but stress that it's all make-believe and not worth following
